NYCDOE Science Safety Manual Grades 6-12

The 2021 version of the New York City Department of Education Science Safety Manual for Grades 6-12 provides guidance around safe and ethical procedures for science teaching and learning and addresses city, state, and federal regulations for science laboratories, investigations, and experiential learning activities. It also includes information about obtaining, using, storing, and disposing of chemicals and materials used for science and STEM activities, and provides a set of relevant links, forms, and other resources to support science safety. This manual is designed for secondary school administrators, science teachers, laboratory specialists, and other staff working with secondary science classes, and replaces the 2008 Science Safety Manual. All science staff members are required to review this manual annually and file a signed statement that they have read the material and agree to follow all regulations and guidance contained therein.
