United for fossil fuel phase-out and a 1.5C-aligned COP28 outcome

Businesses join with leaders across all sections of society to call for an orderly, just and equitable phase out of fossil fuels to deliver a 1.5°C-aligned outcome at COP28.

As the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai enters its final days, we are at a tipping point. While the first week of the conference has seen an impressive set of declarations and commitments, there is still much more to be done and the overall success of the COP hinges on strong outcomes from the negotiations. 

There is a historic opportunity at COP28 for governments to deliver a global agreement on fossil fuel phase out and the course-correction needed to bring the world back on track for 1.5C. At this critical moment, leading businesses are standing up and making their voices heard alongside other leaders from diverse groups across society. Because later is too late. 

200+ businesses representing +$1.5T revenue urge governments to phase out fossil fuels 

Over 200 companies representing over $1.5 trillion in global annual revenue are urging national governments to address the primary cause of climate change: burning fossil fuels. 

The letter was coordinated by We Mean Business Coalition and its partners through the Fossil to Clean campaign.

1700+ leaders from across society call for a 1.5C-aligned outcome at COP 

Over 1700 signatories and counting from across business, finance, philanthropy, politics and civil society have written a letter to COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber to support the delivery of a 1.5°C-aligned outcome at the UN climate conference. Investors, NGOs, scientists, mayors, governors, investors, Indigenous peoples, health professionals, young people, faith leaders, and athletes are all represented.

Cross-Europe networks and organizations representing businesses from SMEs to multinationals have urgently come together during COP28 in a statement coordinated by the EU Corporate Leaders Group.

Signatories urge European policymakers to support language in the negotiations that will set the world economy on a clear path to a tripling of renewable energy by 2030 the doubling of energy efficiency and a fossil fuel phase out.
