HEA Phase 2 closed in December 2022. We will continue to share our learnings and publish Global Public Goods into early 2023, however we will not be launching another call for applications for the HEA programme at this time.

The Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) is an Education Cannot Wait-funded programme led by UNHCR, which supports promising humanitarian education innovations to transition from successful pilots to programmes that can operate at scale.

stage 2

Capacity building

We provide a tailored approach to capacity building, strengthening the internal monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) processes and scaling strategies of our cohort members, in order to support them to sustainably scale.

stage 1

Mentorship

We pair our cohort members with expert mentors from relevant disciplines to provide targeted support for navigating scale.

Peer Learning

We bring our cohort members together for regular peer learning sessions, building a community of practice, capturing knowledge and sharing lessons learned on scaling humanitarian education innovations, including the development of global public goods for the wider education sector.

Evidence Building

We contribute to building the evidence base on how to effectively scale education innovations in humanitarian settings, through investing in research, including working with external evaluation providers.

Since 2016, the HEA has supported 23 humanitarian education innovations in 8 countries. The innovations have ranged from digital to play-based interventions, covering early childhood up to tertiary education
