Mahmudul Khan and his family moved to Manitowoc after he accepted a business analyst position with Lakeside Foods. They soon discovered that a smaller city offers so much more than they expected.  From the short commute times and natural beauty to museums and beaches, they were pleasantly surprised by all there was to offer in the New North.

Experiencing a strong sense of community was what truly stood out.  “This is an amazing experience I’ve had here with the neighbors – they care for us. I’ve never really found that anywhere else.”

Lalu Beré – Opportunity & Inclusion

Lalu Beré is a young professional who shares her experience moving to Northeast Wisconsin from a large metropolitan area. As a woman of color, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Would there be professional opportunities for her? Would she feel out of place or unwelcome? Where could she find a place to collaborate and innovate? Listen to her story and hear how she discovered that Northeast Wisconsin was more than she expected.

Andrea & Sean Elliott – Quality of Life

Sean & Andrea Elliott were not sure what they were getting into when they decided to move their whole family to Northeast Wisconsin. They soon found that their quality of life improved dramatically in the New North, allowing more time for family and less time on the road. Darlene Sao — Hiring Heroes

Darlene had traveled the country with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, but she was ready to transition to the corporate world. When Oshkosh Corp and Mission Wisconsin reached out, she wasn’t sure she wanted to move this far north after spending time in places like Hawaii and Texas. She soon learned that our region is “north of what you expect.” Oshkosh Corporation’s personalized approach and the many support networks in the New North were things that really stood out. Sachin Shivaram — Career Opportunities

Sachin Shivaram, CEO of Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry in Manitowoc was shocked at how little he actually knew about Northeast Wisconsin before he moved here. He grew up in Milwaukee, went away to school and found his way back to Wisconsin – this time in the New North. What surprised him most about the region was the growing diversity, fascinating businesses and overwhelming amount of opportunities, especially for a young person starting their career. Foth New Hires – Welcoming & Hospitable

Randy Homel, CEO of Foth Companies, needed to hire three executive level positions during the pandemic. The new hires all came from outside of Wisconsin: Susan Davis is from Atlanta, Georgia; Travis McGrath and his wife Jill are from Idaho; and Patrick George and his wife Marisa are also from Texas. What’s more, after Jill and Marisa got to know each other, they decided to open a business together. It didn’t take long for the New North to feel like home for everyone. From abundant outdoor recreation to unique business opportunities, watch as they tell their stories and share why they now happily call Northeast Wisconsin home.

Ben and Kate Bruns – Work-Life Balance

Moving from a large metro area in Iowa to Northeast Wisconsin was a big change for Kate & Ben Bruns. They had lived in Iowa their entire lives, and were hesitant to take that leap to a new life in a new community. They discovered that the New North region was the perfect blend of great schools, big city amenities and small-town charm, providing the best of both worlds. Their advice to others considering a move to the New North?  “If you show up, people will embrace you.”

Bethany and Roberto – Affordable & Safe

Moving to the New North turned out to be the best decision for Bethany Wilson and her family. While exploring a position at Schneider National—a premier provider of transportation, intermodal and logistic services—she discovered that Northeast Wisconsin had more than her family expected.

The low cost of living in the New North has allowed Bethany Wilson and her husband Roberto to do more with less! Most of all, the supportive nature and kindness of the people in their community made them feel that “they were in the right place.”
