Godfall will take full advantage of the PS5’s new DualSense controller to make it feel like you’re sliding over different terrain using haptic feedback.

The PS5 is shaping up to be an impressive machine, and it’s no less impressive than its accompanying controller. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, rechargeable battery, USB-C, built-in microphone array, and the all-new Create button will put the DualSense in a league of its own. It’s already being hailed as possibly the greatest controller ever made, and even Bethesda’s Pete Hines was “very impressed” by the DualSense.

Now we’re finding out just how impressive the DualSense can be. In an interview with Gamespot, Godfall Game Director Keith Lee explained that they’re using the DualSense’s dual rumblers to simulate the actual feel of sword-fighting and sliding over surfaces.

"What's exciting about the DualSense controller is the fact that it has stereo vibration in terms of the rumblers, as well as resistance on the triggers, so one of the things that you can do is to create, for the first time, a sensation of your weapon hitting another weapon and how it resonates," Lee said. "The fact that if you're sliding across the ground, depending on the surface of the material--you might slide on gravel or sand or water--the way the vibrations work really feel like the way that those surfaces would feel. So it's a lot more powerful in terms of creating that experience."

Lee added that haptic feedback can also be used to simulate the feeling of two swords grinding against each other when two warriors clash blades. There might even be some way of communicating to the player of enemies about to stab them in the back, but Lee didn't provide details on this potential feature.

Besides the physical sensation conveyed through the DualSense, Lee dropped hints of what Godfall will eventually feel like to play. Combat will be more like 2019's God of War or Devil May Cry 5, while the looting aspect of this "looter slasher" will feel like Monster Hunter: World more than Borderlands or Destiny with its random rolls.
