UMass Medical School holds its 48th commencement ceremony Sunday at WSU

WORCESTER — UMass Medical School held its 48th commencement ceremony Sunday at Worcester State University on the football field around noon.

Interesting highlights this year aside from the ceremony taking place in-person included Attorney Michael Angelini, chairman of the Worcester-based law firm Bowditch, receiving one of the four honorary degrees.

Graduates in the Graduate School of Nursing enter the UMass Medical School commencement held at Worcester State University Sunday.

Additionally, the class of 2021 includes the inaugural cohort of students in the School of Medicine’s Population-based Urban and Rural Population Health (PURCH) track.

The specialized medical degree track is for students who want to practice medicine in diverse, underserved urban and rural communities. Students accepted into the track learn primary and subspecialty care of patients with focus on population health.

The PURCH program welcomed its first class in 2017 at UMass Medical School’s regional campus in Springfield, offered at Baystate Health.

Many of the graduating students also volunteered for the Vaccine Corps instrumental in getting people within the city of Worcester vaccinated over the past several months.
