Ways to Give

  • ONLINE BY CREDIT CARD

  • BY PERSONAL CHECK

    Make checks payable to “Tahoe Donner Giving Fund”.  Mail to:

    You may also drop off checks at the Member Services desk at the Northwoods Clubhouse.  You will receive a tax receipt once the gift is recorded.

  • VIA IRA QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION

    Each year individuals age 70 1/2 years or older must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from their IRA. We ask that you consider making a contribution to the Giving Fund directly from your IRA or other qualified account through what is known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).  Giving to a qualified charity in this way is considered as part of your required minimum distribution.  As an added bonus, giving in this manner reduces your taxable income and thereby your income tax liability. Reducing your taxable income has implications beyond reducing your taxable income as it is used to determine certain tax credits and deductions as well as monthly Social Security and Medicare benefits.  As always, consult with your financial or tax advisor.

    To give to The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund in this manner, contact your IRA custodian to request a direct transfer via a Qualified Charitable Distribution be made to the Giving Fund.  Because the Giving Fund is an affiliate fund with the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation (TTCF), their EIN (68-0416404) is used.  IRA custodians may want to mail the check to TTCF, (P. O. Box 366, Truckee, Ca 96160).  To avoid mystery checks, please be sure to ask your financial institution to include your name in the transmittal information.

    Or, better yet, have the check made out to Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation designating the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund sent to you.  Then you can pass it on to the Giving Fund with your contact information included.

    As an example of how you could put your IRA to work in the community, and for yourself:  If you have a RMD of $50,000 and you designated just 5% as a Qualified Charitable Distribution, you would reduce your income taxable income by $2,500 by donating that amount to support the good work of the Giving Fund. A gift of 10% would reduce your taxable income by $5,000, 15% by $78,500, 20% by $10,000.  A positive impact for you, for the Giving Fund, and for the recipients of our grants to nonprofits and scholarships to high school graduates.  A true win-win.

  • VIA DONOR ADVISED FUND

    If you have a Donor Advised Fund you may direct the fund’s custodian to make your contribution to the Giving Fund via check or electronic funds transfer to the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, the holder of our 501(c)3 [EIN: 68-0416404].  For wire transfers, contact Kathy at TTCF, 530.550.7985.

    In the transmittal information, please make sure your name is included and that the funds are designated for the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund.

  • CORPORATE GIFT MATCHING

    Does your employer offer a donation matching program?  If so, there are two ways to make that happen,  1) follow the process established by the company where you work, or 2) make your donation to the Giving Fund online via credit card, click the Gift Matching option, select your company, and Amply will do the rest – it is an easy one-step option for your convenience.

  • CONTRIBUTING OTHER ASSETS

    The Giving Fund, through TTCF, has the ability to receive other assets such as stock that has accumulated value. Contributing the stock may provide the ability to claim a tax deduction on the increased value without paying capital gains taxes.  Consult your tax advisor.  Contact the Giving Fund at TahoeDonnerCares@gmail.com or tdgf@tahoedonner.com for additional information.

  • LEGACY GIVING

  • SUPPORT OUR OTHER EVENTS
