Jamesville, N.Y. — One person is dead after a police shooting Thursday afternoon in Jamesville, according to the district attorney.

The 1:27 p.m. incident happened near Apulia Road near the Jamesville Reservoir. The investigation is continuing into what led an officer to fire at the individual, authorities said.

“There is a civilian death,” is all Onondaga County DA William Fitzpatrick confirmed Thursday afternoon.

DeWitt police, state police and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the investigation.

Apulia Road between Coye and Cook Farm roads is closed to traffic while police continue to investigate, Sgt. Jon Seeber said. Law enforcement is expected to remain on scene for a while, he said.

The investigation remains in “preliminary stages,” added Trooper Jack Keller, spokesman for the state police.

There is no active threat to the public, Seeber added.
