AIHA Waterborne Pathogen Training
The incidence of Legionnaires' disease and other waterborne pathogens is on the rise, prompting concern from health authorities like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Despite increasing outbreaks, clear guidelines for monitoring, controlling, and preventing these pathogens in building water systems are sparse. Furthermore, the industry lacks standard criteria to identify professionals equipped to manage these health risks effectively.
As a first step, AIHA proposes to establish fundamental and advanced training for technicians and professionals who will perform risk assessments, collect samples and measurements, and interpret results. This initiative aims to ensure that professionals and technicians across various sectors possess the requisite knowledge and skills to safeguard public health.
We are conducting this survey to identify the educational needs, current knowledge gaps, and training preferences among professionals dealing with waterborne pathogens. Your insights will be instrumental in developing a comprehensive training program that meets the diverse needs of practitioners in public health, healthcare management, facility operations, and more.
