Caring for the Individual with Intellectual and Development Disability; Anesthesia Guidance and a Change of Practice.

Description of your Involvement
If you agree to be part of the research study, you will be asked to complete an online survey about Caring for the Individual with Intellectual and Development Disability. We expect the survey will take about 5 minutes to complete.  The survey cannot be completed in more than one session.

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted through Florida Gulf Coast University.  You must be age 18 or older to participate in the study.  Your participation in this study is voluntary.  The University requires that we obtain your consent to participate in this study.  
Refusal to join the study will not affect any future services you may be eligible to receive from the University, The Golisano Institute, or the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthesiology.
Study Summary 
 
The purpose of this study is to identify any gaps in nurse anesthesia curriculum and explore the experiences and knowledge in practice.

Your participation will be kept anonymous. However, working with email or the internet has the risk of compromising privacy, confidentiality, and/or anonymity. Despite this possibility, the risks to your physical, emotional, social, professional, or financial well-being are considered to be 'less than minimal’ by completing the survey.

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to close gaps when caring for the individual with intellectual and development disability. Information gained from this survey will identify if knowledge gaps exist within anesthesia education and curriculum.
 
Invitation to Participate in Study
We are asking you to take part in the study because you are a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist or a Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Participating in this project is completely voluntary. Refusal to join the project will not affect any future services you may be eligible to receive from the University or the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing. You can choose to not answer an individual question as none are mandatory, however, the more questions you are willing to answer the better the results of the project. If you choose to start the survey, you can leave it at any time with no penalty.
 
Benefits of Participation
The information gained from this survey will help us identify gaps in nurse anesthesiology curriculum needed to provide appropriate care to the patient with IDD. The benefits of this project will close gaps identified and help to increase patient safety and outcomes for the patient with an intellectual and/or developmental disability.
