Students for Life Action Unveils Bold Legislative Strategy in Michigan to End Corporate Abortion Industry, Sets Model for Nation

“The framework of this bill is what we’re working towards in every state,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Executive Director. “We’re glad to partner with Rep. Carra to introduce this bill in Michigan as he’s been a strong pro-life fighter. We look forward to the Michigan State House progressing this package designed to be the best way to enshrine life in law as we prepare to protect the preborn and women in a post-Roe America.”

LANSING, M.I., and WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-22-2022) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is pleased to continue working with pro-life leaders in Michigan such as State Representative Steve Carra who introduced a comprehensive SFLAction-inspired bill to protect the preborn from abortion and women from dangerous Chemical Abortion pills. The Protection at Conception Act takes a bold approach to save preborn babies by combining Life at Conception and Banning Chemical Abortion laws into one package.

This bill marks the first time SFLAction has worked with legislators to introduce both pieces of legislation together. It is part of SFLAction’s broader strategy to protect the preborn in law in every state as Roe v. Wade faces a likely reversal at the Supreme Court. Notably, this bill will stop the corporate abortionists getting rich off the 30,000 abortions committed in Michigan annually and start saving preborn lives.

“This is the most comprehensive pro-life legislation introduced in Michigan and will be legally enforceable,” said Rep. Carra. “Over 63 million children have lost their lives to abortion since Roe v. Wade, the time for cheap talk is over and the time for action is now.”

“The framework of this bill is what we’re working towards in every state,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Executive Director. “We’re glad to partner with Rep. Carra to introduce this bill in Michigan as he’s been a strong pro-life champion. We look forward to the Michigan State House progressing this package designed to be the best way to enshrine life in law as we prepare to protect the preborn and women in a post-Roe America.”

Michigan’s 1931 law, which was intended to criminalize Chemical Abortion pills which make up half of abortions, has been made void since Roe’s fatal ruling. SFLAction has filed two amicus briefs in Michigan to fight back on anti-life laws orchestrated by Governor Whitmer. Rep. Carra’s bill would update the 1931 law and mirror provisions in Oklahoma law where abortion is only legal in the case of saving a woman’s life.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,250 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 15 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
