Radical Activists Propose a One-Two Punch to the U.S. Constitution as the Equality Act & ERA on the Hill TODAY

“Together, the ERA and the IN-Equality Act would allow radical activists to turn the concept of sex into silly putty, able to stretch and fit into anything courts might imagine and making believing Americans vulnerable to prosecution,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins.

Look for her op-ed on the danger the ERA poses to women later today in the Washington Times’ Opinion section.

WASHINGTON D.C. (03-17-2021) – Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins made the following statement as the Senate Judiciary Committee considered the Equality Act and as the ERA is scheduled for action in the House today: “Today, the Democrats in the House and Senate engage in a one-two punch against the Constitution and people of faith in the U.S. In the vote on the ERA, abortion activists seek to get abortion into the Constitution with a now vaguely worded call for protections based on ‘sex,’ but in the “Equality Act” we learn that they define sex so broadly that women can be left behind. Further, the falsely named “Equality Act” makes people of faith unequal under the law, attacking the conscience rights protections of all who disagree with this radical restructuring of our society. Together, the ERA and the IN-Equality Act would allow radical activists to turn the concept of sex into silly putty, able to stretch and fit into anything courts might imagine and making believing Americans vulnerable to prosecution.”

On the Equality Act at Students for Life Action: “The Equality Act will allow discrimination against pre-born babies and people of faith, as it strips First Amendment protections from those horrified by the loss of life from abortion and forces taxpayers to fund abortions through all nine-months of pregnancy,” said Hawkins. “Our focus should be on helping women succeed at home and work, not in forcing taxpayer-funded abortion to keep them on the job without families.”

On the ERA, Students for Life Action is a leader in a coalition of prominent, pro-life and pro-family organization because the ERA would both harm women’s interests and provide a foothold for abortion in the Constitution. Today on the Hill, the letter is circulating.

“A lot has changed in the last 100 years since the ERA was first discussed, but today, abortion advocates have hijacked pleasant sounding words to create a legal hook for abortion in the U.S. Constitution and are refusing to acknowledge that their plan failed – again. The ERA would create a foothold for abortion in our founding document, which would be one of many ways that the ERA would hurt women,” said Hawkins. “Students for Life Action will score the ERA vote, calling on members of Congress to reject any deadline changes proposed to the ERA.”

Pro-Life leaders joining together in the coalition include Hawkins along with Anne Schlafly Cori, Chairman, Eagle Forum; Penny Nance, CEO & President, Concerned Women for America; Colleen Holcomb, President, Eagle Forum; Rebecca Hagelin, CEO, United in Purpose; Jeanne Mancini, President, March for Life; Lila Rose, Founder & President, Live Action; Jessica Anderson, Executive Director, Heritage Action; Abby Johnson, CEO, And Then There Were None; Cynthia Collins, SpeakHope.net, OperationOutcry.org, LifeFreedomAlliance.org; Connie Eller, Missouri Blacks for Life; Victoria Cobb, President, The Family Foundation of Virginia; Joe Langfeld, Executive Director, Human Life Alliance; Brandi Swindell, Founder/CEO, Stanton Healthcare; Christina Bennett, Communications Director, Family Institute of Connecticut and Lauren Muzyka President & CEO, Sidewalk Advocates for Life and other names as added.
