How Pro-Life Legislators Are Working to Get a Vote on Life at Conception

Thanks to the efforts of pro-life leaders like Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) and Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV), Life at Conception legislation is getting one step closer to a federal vote! Here’s the latest news:

Rep. Mooney introduced H.R.1011, the Life at Conception Act in early February of this year, but it has yet to receive a vote on the House floor. This bill aims to declare that the right to life is protected by the Constitution at all stages of life including conception. Notably, the legislation does not prosecute women for the death of a preborn child.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction) supported this bill early on and has been working to get Life at Conception bills passed at the state and federal level. SFLAction President, Kristan Hawkins, tweeted, “Rep. Good is leading his Party in demanding a vote for #ProtectionAtConception. The time is NOW.”

Rep. Good is making good on that promise! By introducing a resolution to force a vote on the Life at Conception Act, we are one step closer to breaking through the political process and actually getting a vote on a bill that can save countless preborn babies.

His resolution was supported by the House Freedom Caucus and 60 colleagues who too believe it’s time for a vote on record. As the reversal of Roe is impending, many voters want to see how their Representatives vote on vital pro-life legislation. He tweeted, “We must stand strong on life and hold pro-death Democrats accountable for their extremist policies.”

Extremist policies have not only led to violence against pro-lifers in recent days, but the death of over 65 million preborn babies since 1973. This bill follows the science that tells us life begins at conception—it’s our responsibility to uphold that in our federal laws.

Rep. Good thanked SFLAction in a tweet saying, “Thank you @SFLAction for endorsing my resolution demanding a vote on the Life at Conception Act. All House Republicans should join us in the fight to protect ALL life!” We couldn’t agree more.
