Athletes drafting stocks in annual CNBC contest

Heat F Andre Iguodala, U.S. swimmer Ryan Murphy and pro poker player Maria Ho wereamong the participating 10 teams in the annual CNBC Stock Draft. The teams made two picks each from 60 investments, with CNBC contributor Tim Seymour taking Bitcoin with the No. 1 pick. After the selection, Seymour said, “I hear the groans. Want is this, the New Jets crowd out there?” Ho picked second, taking Amazon because the stock "has proven its reliability throughout the pandemic.” Murphy selected third, taking Ark Innovation, because having an “actively managed fund over this next 10-month period is going to be pretty valuable.” Iguodala picked ninth, taking Lennar as a “sleeper” in the real estate industry.

Ho’s second pick was DraftKings, because “there’s a lot of room for growth still, and legal gambling markets are opening.” CNBC’s Tyler Mathisen: “The gambler goes for gambling.” CNBC’s Jim Cramer said the “NFL is their sweet spot, and you’re going to be talking about Super Bowl gambling." That "could be the peak for this stock." Murphy took Marriott with his second pick, while Iguodala took Tesla (“Power Lunch,” CNBC, 4/29).
