FAQ for SNAP recipients

What is SNAP Stretch?

SNAP Stretch is a way to help your SNAP dollars go further. There is no sign-up or registration, simply use your EBT card when you shop at your participating farmers market. To find a participating market, click here. When you make a SNAP purchase of any qualifying SNAP item at participating farmers markets, on-farm stands, CSAs, mobile markets, and local retail grocery stores with your SNAP EBT card, you'll get a 1:1 match  in SNAP Stretch dollars. So- for every dollar spent using SNAP, you'll receive a dollar in SNAP Stretch.

How do I sign up for SNAP Stretch?

There is no sign up process or paperwork to participate in SNAP Stretch! As long as you currently have SNAP/EBT/food stamps, you can visit any participating market (find one here) and spend your SNAP dollars to get SNAP Stretch. Every market runs the program a little bit differently, so if you have questions, feel free to reach out to your local market directly.

What if I have children?

Great!! If you have a child with you, you will receive an additional 1:1 match, in addition to regular SNAP Stretch.

What about Seniors?

Are you age 60 or older? You're in luck! SNAP Stretch is matched at a 1:2 rate for senior shoppers!

What can I buy?

You can use an EBT card to purchase these items:

​-fruits and vegetables

-meat, fish, and poultry (eggs)

-dairy products

-breads and cereals

-other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages

-seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat

Use your SNAP Stretch to purchase:

-fresh fruits and vegetables

-canned, dried, or frozen whole or cut fruits and vegetables without added sugars, fats, oils, or salt

-seeds and plants intended for cultivation and consumption (example: tomato seeds or tomato plants)

-fresh herbs (example: basil, thyme, mint)

SNAP Stretch is compatible EBT cards including Summer EBT.
