McPherson News for September 25
Principal's Message
Hello McPherson Families,
This week, we have our first all school flag ceremony on Wednesday, September 28 at 8:10 am, followed by a Principal’s Coffee and PTSA meeting. Parents are invited to attend the flag ceremony and then stay for the PTSA meeting.
This is the last week of the STAR Mission Fundraiser! Please help us meet our goal of raising $50,000 to support STEM education at McPherson!
Also, please remember that it is very important for students to be on time to school every day. As a school of choice, McPherson monitors school attendance carefully. Students coming in after the bell rings are required to go through the office to get a tardy slip. Being on time for school every day helps children establish positive habits at a young age.
Have a great week Meteors,
Mrs. Godsey
Principal
PTSA Meeting & Principal's Coffee - 9/28
Come and enjoy coffee and donuts and join our Principal's Coffee/General PTSA Meeting on SEPTEMBER 28 @ 8:45am in room 500. All Parents are welcome to join us!!
Meteor of the Month
Our first Flag/Awards presentation will be on Wednesday, September 28th. Each grade level will be recognizing one student each month as "Meteor of the Month". All parents are welcome to attend. If your student is receiving an award, you will be notified.
Attendance Information
This year, we want to make sure students are in school as much as possible. Both gates close in the morning at 8:00. Students in grades 3-5 begin class at 7:50 and grades 1-2 will begin lining up at 7:58. Middle school students begin walking to their first period class at that time as well. If your child will be eating breakfast, please allow time for them to eat and clean up. Our gates open at 7:30 and breakfast is served at that time.
As a reminder, our McPherson Handbooks states that:
- Excessive absences and/or tardies interfere with the student’s learning and with the instructional program in the classroom. It puts the student at a disadvantage and interrupts the class and teacher.
- Student absences must be verified. Parents must call the school’s Absence Hot Line (714-628-4326) before 9:00 a.m. on the day of the child’s absence, and every day after, which the child is out.
- If your child has 5 or more absences or tardies, you will receive a letter from the assistant principal.
- If any questions or have any concerns about your child's tardies or absences, please contact our office. (714) 997-6384

This week’s featured games are Footgolf and Basketball Battleship! The teachers will integrate at least one of these games into their teaching sessions this week. While doing so, they will also incorporate a discussion about initiative.
Initiative is the awareness, energy, and drive needed to get something started. Having initiative demonstrates your ability to assess a situation, see what action is needed, and then get to work! Initiative is what links having a thought to acting on that thought. Sometimes the first step is the most difficult, but taking initiative helps propel life forward in purposeful directions.
