Leverty Letter
Allow me to introduce Mr. Cameron Stenger as our new Social Worker. Mr. Stenger’s expertise will be integral to the success of our students and community. Having worked in the mental health profession for many years, he will offer resources and networks that school based staff (teachers/administrators/etc.) don’t necessarily have, and his work will take him into the community. Mr. Stenger offers expertise in crisis prevention and trauma informed interventions, and we are excited to have him onboard.
Anyone that reflects back upon this school year will agree the challenges placed on our students’ plates were large, and for some students they handled CDL/pandemic related responsibilities well. However, for most children, experiencing some type of social emotional side effects will be a common and ongoing challenge. The District is thinking along those same lines, and in addition to adding a social worker to each building’s staff, we will also have a fulltime Student Success Coach for the 2021-22 school year. We have had Student Success Coaches at Montclair for several years, but the increase in hours will benefit what we can offer our students.
As we envision school opening in the fall, hopefully with students in classrooms for the entire instructional day, we’re positioning ourselves to better assist students’ social emotional needs. Children are resilient and they overcome many challenges far better than adults, so I have no doubt that we can help our students overcome their own challenges, but it will take all of us working together as we move forward. My thanks to the parent community for their continued support throughout this school year, and I look forward to partnering with you in the future.
Respectfully,
Sean

Student Work Snapshot
It has been wonderful seeing student work go up on our hallway walls. Typically parents/guardians can see these items as they come and go from the school, but this year is different. Therefore, we wanted to bring some of this amazing work to you. We’ll be publishing random examples of the hallway offerings until the end of the school year. See the photo collection below.

Beaverton Safe Routes to School ~ Parent Survey
Dear Montclair Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis

Gracias,
Leah Biado-Luis

Nutrition Services ~ Great News!
Oregon has been approved to issue retroactive Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) funds for the 2020 -2021 school year. This will provide more than $550 million in food assistance for approximately 572,000 children in Oregon. Funds will begin going out in the US Mail in July 2021. Apply now for Meal Benefits at www.schoolcafe.com to be sure you are eligible for P-EBT funds!
Some households do not need to apply for P-EBT if they already qualify for free meals. Students in the following categories will automatically receive P-EBT funds. You DO NOT need to apply if ANY of the following are true:
- You receive SNAP or TANF benefits
- Your students qualify as Migrant, Foster, or Homeless
- You have already received a Meal Benefits approval letter for 2020-2021
- All of your students attend a CEP* (Community Eligibility Provision) school
*CEP Schools:

Fir Grove
Greenway
Hazeldale
Kinnaman
McKay
McKinley
Merlo

Some households DO need to apply for Meal Benefits by June 30, 2021 to be considered for P-EBT. Go to www.schoolcafe.com to apply if:
- You have any students at a non-CEP school
- You have not applied or been approved for Meal Benefits for the 2020-2021 school year
If you're not sure if your students are eligible, go to www.schoolcafe.com. From there, you can:

Qualifying for free or reduced meals for the 2020 –2021 school year before June 30, 2021 will ensure you receive P-EBT when the benefits are issued. P-EBT benefit eligibility and amounts will vary. Visit pebt.oregon.gov for more information.
