End of day dismissal: A number of staff have already moved to holding students until 3:05 PM. With athletics, bear den, and tutoring, it has started to become a safety concern as students are moving into the building when some classrooms have 5 minutes left. Please inform your 4th period that we ALL will be dismissing at the 3:05 bell. There were no objections to this when I shared it previously to get input.

April 2: April 2 is scheduled to be a professional development day. We have Nicole Dimich returning the morning to continue our work with Instructional Agility. Please bring an example of a check for understanding that you completed this semester, and be prepared to share it in a small group. In the afternoon, we are working on have Barry Thomas work with us with cultural proficiency. An official schedule will be sent out later this week.
Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month - April (From Mrs. Barnhill):
Autism Awareness (also called Autism Acceptance) Month begins in April. Mr. Karmazin has allowed us to kick off Autism Awareness Month on Thursday, April 1st by wearing jeans with something blue with a donation of $3. If you feel so inclined to donate more, you are welcome to. The money will go towards buying resources for our students on the autism spectrum to be more successful in their everyday classes! Donations can be placed either in my box or Mrs. Young's box all next week. There will be a basket of ribbons in the mail room for everyone to wear the entire month of April to support autism awareness. If you do not donate, you are still encouraged and welcome to wear a ribbon!
Autism Awareness Month holds a special place in my heart because my youngest brother, Benjamín, is autistic. He is in an ACP program at Millard North High School and has come an incredibly long way thanks to resource teachers and so many other staff who have supported him along the way. Our goal this month is to help the staff and students at Bryan Middle School feel more comfortable around autistic people and normalize the unique differences that these students bring to our classrooms.
I've included a link for you all to look over about supporting students with autism spectrum disorder. We will also be doing some CUBS lessons about autism spectrum disorder to open the dialogue about special needs in all our classrooms. We want our students to feel comfortable asking questions, so our building is a more inclusive and welcoming space.
If you have any questions, please reach out to myself or Mrs. Young! Happy Friday, everyone!
From Last Week

Honors Night - Various honors ie sports participation, Science Fair participation, etc.
Professional Development End of the Year/Beginning of the Year: I would like to establish a committee to help plan the end of the year professional development and the beginning of the year professional development. If this interests you, please send me an email. Thanks!
Hoodie Expectations:
As I am curious on what each classroom expectations are, I have this brief forms survey for you to complete:
Finally, my door is always open. If you want to voice frustration or support for this (or anything), please come talk to me. I know there are multiple sides to a situation and would love to hear your views. If you are not comfortable with that, here is a form to give anonymous feedback about anything in the building.
NSCAS Assessment (From Korth on 2/25)
Hi everyone! This year the NSCAS assessment is not a summative assessment as in years past. It is a Phase 1 Pilot with the Science Field Test.
- ELA and Math assessments are transitional and designed to help NE prepare for an improved approach to assessing grade-level performance.
- The assessments are shorter to preserve instructional time this year.
- Tests will support research being done related to the impact of COVID and identify unfinished learning that may exist.
- The science test is a field test for the new standards.
- There will be no public reporting of student results for this year. Students will not receive scores.
- Remote students will be invited to participate in testing at the building, however, not required.
I have attached the draft schedule to this email. We will be testing within ELA, math, and science classrooms! The bell schedule will not be adjusted. Below is the number of questions and estimated time to take the assessment. I will reach out with additional information for staff testing soon. If you have any questions, please let me know! Take care, YOU MATTER!
