Creating Opportunities Together
A Thought or Two from Mr. Nieslanik
I take the gift of Winter Break and New Year's Eve to reflect on my work, myself, and the community I serve. I am honored to serve as the Southridge High School Principal and am proud to call myself an educator. With my role comes much responsibility and with responsibility comes the need to reflect.
I am proud of the work we do at SRHS, of our students and staff, and of how we have navigated the nuances of education over the past four months. Have we been perfect? No, we are far from perfect, there are areas we can improve upon. Have we strived to be better than the day before? Yes, I can say this with confidence.
In my reflections I know we can do better:
- in holding each other accountable to maintain mask-wearing and social distancing.
- in holding each other up when times get tough.
- in communicating with families and students.
- in meeting the needs of all learners.
- in dealing with escalating behaviors demonstrated by a handful of students.
I also know that we:
- are working hard to meet the needs of a diverse student body.
- building and implementing strategies to fill gaps, increase knowledge, and enhance skills.
- are dedicated to being the best we can be.
- have more students in clubs, activities, and athletics than we have had for multiple years.
As we move into 2022, I invite you to provide feedback, a positive thought, a point of concern, or an area where we can better meet your student's needs. I can best be reached via email at David_Nieslanik@beaverton.k12.or.us.
On behalf of all of us at SRHS, Happy New Year!
David

Hot Spots Available
The BSD Instructional Technology has hotspots for high school students needing connectivity support through the TMobile Project 10 Million program. The TMobile Project 10 Million program supports students and families lacking sufficient internet access if the family is participating in the free and reduced lunch program.
The Intranet Hotspot page (https://bsd48j.sharepoint.com/department/IT/SitePages/Hotspots.aspx)
has the request form and information about the program. Once the form is completed, the form comes automatically to IT and the hotspot coordinator at your school. A device will be sent to the school immediately or can be picked up in IT if the need is urgent.
