MISSION STATEMENT:
At Montclair WE strive to prepare students for future success by providing a healthy and safe environment where all students can be challenged, supported and engaged.
Leverty Letter
Dear Montclair Families,
April has stirred our energy and desire to be outdoors, as evident from sunny reading moments in first grade. As schools are now hosting students, teachers are taking opportunities to conduct instruction outdoors, and this provides a small respite from being confined to our classroom cohort space. Speaking of being outdoors and taking advantage of outdoor activities, I want to encourage all Montclair families to continue logging their Marathon Kids miles in the online app, and using the wonderful weather to be healthy and physically active.
Each year students are engaged in our BSD adopted health curriculum, which includes Erin’s Law lessons around stranger danger and Oregon state required The Great Body Shop human sexuality standards. As many of you know, these lessons are very well done and age appropriate, and parents have the option to preview the content before teachers teach the lessons. We published a notice last November highlighting this information, and parent preview procedures have changed this school year due to the pandemic. Reach out to your teacher, who will have the directions to preview the lessons if you desire.
A couple of house keeping items:
- Student Medication: If your child takes and inhaler or epi pen and they are attending hybrid in-person, please be sure to drop off their medication in the office, M-F between 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. Ring the doorbell and we'll bring the necessary medication form to complete the process.
- Play Dates: Transportation has informed all schools that they will not be allowing “play dates” as in past, where a student might have a note from home and ride a different bus to visit their friends house. Obviously, due to safety precautions and screening procedures taking place on BSD buses, we’re maintaining the specific cohorts that exist. Thank for your understanding
- Attendance: With our new HIP/CDL schedule, we’ve changed how we do attendance. CDL students will still be in attendance if engaging at least once throughout the CDL day. HIP attendance will be taken twice a day and a student could be marked absent either AM or PM. If you know your child will be absent (ill or appointment) please call the attendance line to report daily absences.
Finally, a thousand thanks to the emails and kind words from our community. We cannot do what we do without your support, and we appreciate your acknowledgement of the efforts we are putting in to instruct your child(ren). Montclair has always relied on the strong and supportive contributions, as well as the connections we have with our families, and these relationships are even more important in these challenging times.
Respectfully,
Sean Leverty

Kids are everywhere. Drive like it!
As students return to schools for in-person learning this month, arrival and departure times may be different than you are used to. While traffic and activities around Beaverton schools may look different, one thing is for sure – kids are out and about in our community. Some kids may be returning to school buildings while others will be continuing to learn remotely and taking breaks outside during the day. Safety is everyone’s responsibility! Kids are everywhere. #DriveLikeIt.
Driving Safety Tips
Our community needs everyone to drive safely, be alert, and follow traffic laws, especially when observing students walking, biking, skateboarding, and scootering. Let’s work together to keep our students safe!
- Stop for school buses when red lights flash. Both directions of traffic must stop.
- Watch your speed. 20 mph is the school zone speed limit.
- Be ready to stop at all times. Kids may dart into the street without checking for traffic.
- Stop for people at intersections and when asked by the crossing guard. Check your blind spots before turning and behind your vehicle before reversing.
- Drive for conditions – This time of year is often rainy and foggy limiting visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians so keep those headlights on to help others see you.

Nutrition Services Information
Dear BSD Families,
The start of In-Person Hybrid Instruction is right around the corner, and our Nutrition Services department has been hard at work developing a plan for how to continue to provide free meals for all children during both Hybrid and CDL. The USDA has provided waivers for the rest of the school year that allow any child (ages 1-18) to access free meals.
Starting April 5, meal service via bus routes will be discontinued.
If you attend Hybrid Elementary School:
● Hybrid students can receive a free daily meal bag to take home.
● Two days of meals will be sent home on Tuesday.
● No registration is required.
If you attend Hybrid Middle School:
● Hybrid students can eat lunch for free at school on the days that they attend in-person instruction.
● Free meal bags with breakfasts, lunches, and supper snacks will be available for students to take home at the end of their in-person school day to cover days they attend school from home and/or asynchronously.
● No registration is required.
If you attend Hybrid High School:
● Students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free at school on the days they attend in-person instruction.
● Free meal bags with breakfast, lunch, and supper snacks will be available for students to take home at the end of their in-person school day to cover days they attend school from home and/or asynchronously.
● No registration is required.
If you attend CDL or are a non-enrolled community child:
● All CDL students and children not enrolled in the Beaverton School District can access a free 5-Day Meal Bag every Wednesday from 11am-12pm.
● Meal bags include 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 5 supper snacks. Only children aged 4 and older are eligible for supper snacks.
● Families can select a school to pick up these meals in the Meal Bag Registration Form.
● Registration is strongly encouraged.
● Children do not need to be present to pick-up meal bags.
● Masks are required to be worn by anyone picking up meal bags.
