Daily Growl Issue 2
March 2024
2024 what an exciting year so far and it has just begun!
Diamond View Middle School is A California Distinguished School
Diamond View is having an amazing start to 2024. People may say" Beware of the ides of march" but we start the month of March with a huge honor being named a California Distinguished School of 2024.
On March 1st all staff and students were brought to the multi purpose for a secret assembly, we were were greeted by Mrs. Patti Gunderson; the Superintendent of Lassen County Office of Education, Mr. James Hall; the Program Coordinator at Lassen County Office of Education , Mr. Waddell; Susanville School District Superintendent and Mrs. Dede Heimbigner our beloved Diamond View Principal and most importantly Doughnuts. No one knew why we were gathered together, but we knew it was something big.
Our big surprise is that Diamond View was awarded an recognized as a California Distinguished School for 2024. This is the first time in our school history that D.V was recognized by the state, the last time a school from Lassen county received this award was in 2005 by Lassen High School. Diamond View is one of only 293 middle schools and high schools to be selected for this honor. There are over 7,000 schools in CA and less than 4% qualified for this distinction this year. This is a huge honor and every student, parent and staff should feel very proud of all their hard work this year. Keep it up Panthers! " Four dens.. One Pride!!!!
Diamond View Kindness Takeover
Brian Williams-
Brian Williams is a man of kindness, love, and hope. He is a licensed pilot, and has gone to Africa several times. He is a trained Jitsu fighter, he is a philanthropist ( a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money for good causes). He has donated 3000 shoes for kids. Once when he went to Africa to donate shoes to the orphanage, he was greeted by a girl named Grace, she seemed nice and welcomed her until later that night. When Brian was asleep late at night Grace and some others snuck into his room, Grace had a King Baboon Spider and set it on Brian's face while asleep. At first he didn't wake up, until it started moving…He finally woke up screaming as the others sat there, laughing. Another story of his, Brian was handing pairs of shoes to the kids as he encountered another girl named Stella. Brian asked, “ what shoes do you want?” Stella didn’t reply, he asked again and again, yet Stella had no answer. Finally Grace popped in, “ Brian, this is her first choice “. In a couple moments, Stella tried some shoes and was amazed, as that was her first time ever wearing shoes. Brian met another child, his name was Peter. Peter had his “ lucky shoes “. Brain met Peter a few years back and gave him a pair of shoes, Peter kept those shoes and never got rid of them. Peter was a really fast and good runner, Peter always refused to get new shoes after that.
Today you and I will make the world better, then we did yesterday.

DV Goes to the Science Bowl
A group of Diamond View students took part in the California Far North Science Bowl. The science bowl had teams of middle school and high school students from all over the north state compete at Shasta College. The event is put on by the United States Department of Energy and has been running since the early 90's. It started with a 6 round group competition. Each round had two 8 minute halves in which students had to answer difficult science and math questions in both multiple choice and short answer form. The 6th/7th grade mix team took wins against both Anderson Middle School and Maywood Middle School's team 2, the latter being a team that made it all the way to the finals. They also had a very close round against Maywood Middle School team 1 that was lost by only 4 points, which is the amount each toss up question is worth. While on the Shasta College campus students were also able to take part in a STEM activity and finished the day watching the middle school and high school finals. Overall the team got some valuable experience and know what to expect should they participate again next year. Good job panthers!

Diamond View House System
Diamond View House System - A Student Perspective
Isibindi
The best house
My favorite thing about Isinbindi is that we have the best people in our house!!! For example
Mrs. Neilsen is our house leader, we also have Tosh and Connor, Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Heimbigner , Mr. TJ, Ms. Schmidt, Mrs. George , Ms. Kim, Miz. Jo Forsyth and Ms. Megan. The chant for Isibindi is really cool, I help make up the arm movements . The competitions have been super fun! Kudos to Malia for getting so close to beating Ryder in the staring contest. WOOT BINDI WOOT!
Good job guys and have a good week!

Reveur
Reveur is the best because we have amazing teachers, we have Mrs. West, Mrs. Hannah, Mrs. Pratt, Mrs. Kinnaman, Mrs. Tristan, Mrs. Shaw. The Best part about the houses is the challenges and the meetings. Also, most of my friends are in my house. Also this house in my opinion is the best because the teachers are super cool. We are also the alphas.
Altruismo
In my opinion Altruismo is the best house. We have the coolest formation for the house chant and we have Mr. Jenner as our main person. Then we have Mr. Zavala, Mrs. Smith, Nurse Julie, Mr. West, Mrs. Wright, Miss Nichols, Miss Norma, Miss Moran, and Ms. Angela and they've helped us a lot . Shout out to Audrina and her friends for helping us do our chants. Pretty much a lot of my friends are in Altruismo and it's so much fun doing the challenges.
The staring contest we had against the other houses was so much fun. We were all laughing and doing stuff like that after we lost or won the challenge. Once again, this was just so much fun. Shout out to Mr. Jenner as he is the main person who is getting us to do it, and Aiden G. Rocks, he got 80 points for the house.

Amistad
I think amistad is the best house. Why? Because we got the best teachers, students, color, and chant. Speaking of chants, Amistad won the very first house challenge. We won, having the best chant out of the four, I am glad to know everyone worked well and hard on this.
Amistad is the color red leaving excitement, pop, and love. Our house afterall is the house of love and friendship. Shout out to our best teachers of Amistad Mrs. Nakanishi, Mrs. Villalobos, Ms. Mac, Mrs. Martin, and Mr. Hartrum.
