Mrs. Figueroa's Weekly Newsletter
For March 21st to 25th
We are going into our third week of March...WOW! We hosted a meeting with our Council Member Lee last week and she loved seeing your children working and enjoyed speaking to some of them.
A few reminders:
- School begins at 8:00 a.m. Students will be marked late after entering the building at 8:11 a.m. Please do your best to get your children to school on time each day. We begin instruction promptly each morning and we want ensure all children are in their classrooms ready to learn.
- Report cards will be available on your child's NYCSA. If you would like a printed copy, please contact the school.
- Stop-Drop-Go: Please follow the volunteers directions for Stop, Drop and Go. Please pull up and away slowly. We need to think about the safety of all in our school community.
Here's to a great week ahead!!!

Mood Meter😁😉😡😪
We have been using the Mood Meter throughout the day to help students build their emotional self-awareness. Here's a good explanation of how you can use the Mood Meter at home, the same way we use it in school.
Excerpt from The Mood Meter: a tool for developing greater self-awareness and awareness of others
The Mood Meter is a square divided into four quadrants — red, blue, green, and yellow — each representing a different set of feelings. Different feelings are grouped together on the Mood Meter based on their pleasantness and energy level. This is a great tool to use at home to help your child build their emotional intelligence and be able to clearly identify how they are feeling. You can use the colors of the Mood Meter to discuss your feelings or inquire about your child’s feelings. For example, you could say: “It seems you’re in the red and you want to feel more green, is there something I can do to help?”
Once you’ve gotten used to identifying feelings with your child using the four colors, try attaching a specific word to the feeling. For example, if your child is in the blue and feeling sad — ask your child if there’s another word that better describes how they feels. Are they lonely, disappointed, or melancholy? Say what you see, as you notice how your child is expressing his or her feelings. “You’re stomping your feet. You must be angry.” Then, talk to your child about strategies for shifting away from this feeling. “If you’re lonely, what can we do to help you feel less lonely and more connected?”.
