Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am thrilled to welcome you back to school. As we plan for a beginning like no other we have seen in the past, our focus will still be to ensure that:
Every child, every day is finding a way to feel connected,
every child, every day is being challenged by new learning experiences,
and every child, every day knows they can lean on us for academic and emotional support.
We have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe opening of school and to implement best practices to mitigate the risk associated with Covid-19. Our classrooms have been modified to increase social distancing, signage has been installed throughout the building to guide students, and our schedules have been modified to allow your children the best opportunity to be successful.
Partnering with families will be crucial this year as we face many obstacles due to the global pandemic. We appreciate your support as you work with students at home to practice safety protocols such as wearing a mask and washing hands. We encourage families to stay connected and informed by following the GMS website, Facebook page, and District website for important updates and information.
Sincerely,
Seth C. Hillman
Virtual/Remote Instruction
School Reopening Phases
taken from GCSD website
The DHEC report from Monday, September 1, showed Georgetown County has made significant progress in lowering its COVID-19 ratings. Superintendent Keith Price has received approval from the State and our Board to review GCSD’s reopening plan on a weekly basis instead of the bi-weekly review that was required in our original reopening plan.
What this means is Week 1 (Sept. 8-11) will be REMOTE instruction; Week 2 (Sept. 14-18) based on the Monday, September 1 report, will also be REMOTE.
A decision on Week 3 (Sept. 21-25) will be made next week based on DHEC ratings. This will allow for the possibility of moving to HYBRID in Week 3 if the numbers justify it. Schools and families will still have two weeks notice to prepare for any change.
