Leverty Letter
Dear Montclair Families,
Thanks to our community - parents, guardians, grandparents and the like, who went out of their way to make teacher/staff appreciation week a huge success! Montclair staff are committed to your children and during opportunities like these, appreciation week, we especially feel your commitment and appreciation too. Thank you for being contributors to the success of all students and the Montclair community.
I’ve had the pleasure of being in classrooms and seeing students in action, and I’ve learned a great deal about our students’ resiliency. Many of our classrooms have both CDL students and those in-person present, so I’m able to compare how school and learning in both formats is impacting our students. There is no doubt that the pandemic and the prolonged impact of closures, whether it be school or societal in general, has and will take a toll on everyone. The most prominent query for me has been whether our students will demonstrate behaviors that reflect this impact? I must say, Montclair students are strong, determined, resilient and capable. They have demonstrated their ability to pivot, to adapt and to lean forward into their learning. We often feel the need to nurture and protect our children in times like these, and I would offer that we also have the opportunity to learn from them. When you pry away the minutia and get to the heart of what matters the most, you begin to understand what is truly important – happiness and belonging. Montclair students are demonstrating happiness and belonging. Thank you for empowering them.
Be well,
Sean
COVID-19 Testing Program
Ms. Ashleigh Walker our Health Assistant, assists students that come into the health room with symptoms of COVID-19.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
- New or different than usual shortness of breath
- New or different than usual coughing
- Fever of 100.4 or higher
- New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. You can find the consent form at this link: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/public-safety/emergency-preparedness/coronavirus/return-to-in-person-instruction/covid-19-health-safety-guidance under the COVID-19 Testing Information. For further information on the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test.

Beaverton Safe Routes to School ~ Parent Survey
Dear Montclair Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis

Gracias,
Leah Biado-Luis

There are five activities to choose from and an extra raffle entry for each activity completed.
It’s always good to remember the endless benefits that come from being active. Here are just a few:
- It’s fun –especially when you can get the whole family involved.
- It keeps you fit and prepares your brain for learning.•It boosts your endorphins and makes us happier.
- It saves us money, otherwise spent on gas and car maintenance.
- It often saves us time from sitting in traffic and in crowded parking lots.•It’s better for the planet –no air pollution, no fossil fuels burned. Just foot and pedal power!
- It makes roads safer as more active road users are visible to vehicles.
