Write Up A Storm
As summer approaches I’m sure every parent is thinking of strategies to keep their child engaged and active, despite the prolonged unknowns of COVID-19. One way kids can be active mentally and physically, and still remain socially distanced, is by writing – perhaps in a journal. One thing we know from this school year is that our students’ writing skills have suffered, and just like math or reading, if we don’t use those mental pathways we regress. Comprehensive Distance Learning has been hard to practice writing with so much of what we submit for homework constituting virtual products (typing or video). Practicing writing helps refine our motor skills by pushing a pencil across paper and our executive function skills by putting on paper what we’re thinking/processing mentally. While we find time to read this summer, consider also finding time to write, and make it memorable by hosting an author share with the grandparents or younger siblings.
CDL Care Event ~ May 27th 3:00-5:00 PM
Montclair wants to make sure that our CDL (Comprehensive Distance Learning) families know WE care, as we are not able to see them in person, nor are they able to interact with their peers in the classroom. As humans, in person connections are so vital to our mental health and wellbeing, so we thought we would do something special just for our CDL only students. We know that CDL students have struggled with the separation, and we want to let them know they are on our minds and in our hearts. We miss seeing you in person and want to show our appreciation for your dedication. Please join us for the regularly schedule CDL library book bag pick up on May 27th. This CDL only event offers several drive through stations on the soccer field, so please come and join in on the fun!
Who: Only CDL Families (Remain in car – social distancing and masks required)
When: Thursday, May 27th from 3:00-5:00 PM (Normal CDL book bag pick up time)
What: Library book bag, THPRD summer swag bag, Washington County Library summer resources, art project and family resources. Monty the Hawk will be appearing too!
Student Work Snapshot
Finally, it has been wonderful seeing student work go up on our hallway walls. Typically parents/guardians can see these items as they come and go from the school, but this year is different. Therefore, we wanted to bring some of this amazing work to you. We’ll be publishing random examples of the hallway offerings until the end of the school year. See the photo collection below.
Enjoy,
Sean Leverty

Beaverton Safe Routes to School ~ Parent Survey
Dear Montclair Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis

Gracias,
Leah Biado-Luis
Coordinador de Rutas Seguras a la Escuela de Beaverton
