· Dismissal Parking Lot
· Tricia Dowling – LMA Extraordinaire
Dear Montclair Families,
May is around the corner and school continues for several more weeks, but we are already thinking about next school year. Our main office is busy enrolling kindergartners for next school year, so if you are enrolling a new kindergartner for 21-22 school year, or if you know a neighbor who will be, please do so as soon as possible. It helps with staffing and placement to know how many students are coming in the fall, as well as who might be coming in other grades. For new kindergarten families, be sure to join our Kindergarten Orientation on May 6th (3:30 PM zoom link below) to meet the kindergarten teachers and learn more about the fall session.
Thank you to all the parents/guardians that have supported our dismissal process, specifically the student pick up process. Your patience and cooperation has not gone without notice. We appreciate those families that line up near the field and wait until buses have entered/exited the parking lot before gathering curbside, as this helps with maneuvering so many vehicles in our small space. We also appreciate drivers that pull all the way forward along the curb, allowing the string of cars down Vermont to free up the parking lot entrance/exit. Our priority is to get your child to your vehicle safely, and a staff member will escort your child to the front of the line as cars pull forward, so no vehicle has to stop mid-stream along the curb. Finally, we appreciate the calm and cautious driving habits of our parents/guardians, so that everyone gets in/out successfully with their precious cargo.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the work of our school library, and more specifically Mrs. Dowling for her tireless efforts in providing every Montclair child access to literature. Please check out the BSD video National School Library Month and the dedicated work of our very own Library Media Specialist. Montclair’s library book pick up system has not only been instrumental in getting books in students’ hands, but it also is the conduit transporting school supplies, technology devices, and homework from school to homes. Thank you Mrs. Dowling!
Regards,
Sean Leverty
State Testing
Dear BSD Families,
Because of the pandemic, the Oregon Department of Education requested a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education that would have allowed school districts to skip state testing this spring. However, the federal government denied that request. Therefore, to maintain our federal funding, the Beaverton School District must offer testing to our students. Parents and guardians have the right to OPT OUT their students from testing.
Shortened versions of the following statewide tests will be offered:
- 3rd Grade: English Language Arts (ELA) & Mathematics
- 4th Grade: English Language Arts (ELA) & Mathematics
- 5th Grade: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics & Science
To maximize in-person instruction time for Hybrid students and to provide testing opportunities for Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) and FLEX Online School students, the district will provide testing opportunities on Wednesdays (asynchronous learning days only) in May and June. Students will take the tests at their current schools. Transportation will be provided for students who live one mile (elementary). (Note: if a school plans to test outside of the Wednesday windows, the school will communicate an alternate schedule directly with families.)
To help us schedule transportation and deliver a safe and successful testing experience for every student, we need to know by April 30 whether your student will or will not participate.

It’s always good to remember the endless benefits that come from being active. Here are just a few:
- It’s fun –especially when you can get the whole family involved.
- It keeps you fit and prepares your brain for learning.•It boosts your endorphins and makes us happier.
- It saves us money, otherwise spent on gas and car maintenance.
- It often saves us time from sitting in traffic and in crowded parking lots.•It’s better for the planet –no air pollution, no fossil fuels burned. Just foot and pedal power!
- It makes roads safer as more active road users are visible to vehicles.

Proposed hours are 8 – 10 am for early start schools or 9 – 11 am for regular start schools. Volunteers can be used every day of the week including Wednesdays. Elementary schools will coordinate for volunteers and front office staff can access a list of cleared volunteers through the district's volunteer management software Better Impact.
