Leverty Letter
Spring has sprung and I hope that your family is enjoying the wonderful sunny weather too. I hope that families enjoyed their spring break and are ready to transition to our new Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)/Hybrid In Person (HIP) school model. As a reminder, CDL/HIP schedules for our K-2 students will change on April 5th and for our 3-5 students on April 8th. As we prepare for these transitions I wanted to offer some guidelines, so that every family/student is successful, feels safe and supports the community with this new school wide endeavor.
We don’t want to miss a beat with our CDL students, so it is important to read your grade level teacher’s newsletter to find out about schedule changes that impact students remaining in CDL. We’ve expanded the amount of PE/Music instruction our CDL student receive, and those live zoom links have not changed. Students will not have Seesaw lessons to complete, as PE/Music are now all live. One change will be the Library book bag pick up time, which will be alternating Thursdays from 3:00-5:00 PM starting April 15th. Many teachers are devising plans to keep CDL students connected to their HIP peers and that will be outlined in your teacher’s schedules.
For our Hybrid In-Person (HIP) families, I want to remind you to check out the Hawk Hybrid Handbook for up to date information that will help you prepare. Additionally, please keep in mind the following items. When families arrive at school Montclair staff will be positioned throughout campus to assist students transitioning to their classroom. Students will be using the exterior door to their classroom, which means certain groups will be going in specific directions and not all through the lobby doors. This will be an orchestrated event designed to keep cohorts from coming into contact with each other for long periods of time. Therefore, when buses arrive they will not release their students until 8:45 AM, and all students arriving via automobiles will be asked to remain in their car until 8:45 AM. Walkers/bikers should not arrive on campus until 8:45 AM.
We understand that some parents/guardians will be bringing their child to school for the very first time. We also recognize that during the pandemic families are sensitive to the safety measures put in place regardless of the location. I want to personally reassure you that we’ve thoughtfully prepared for students to return to school safely and while you may not be able to walk your child to the school lobby, or pick up your child outside of the Library doors, they will be in good hands. We’re asking families to understand that the school campus remains closed while students are in session AND we’ll be mitigating students coming into contact with multiple individuals at all times. Therefore, if you walk your child to school you will be asked to refrain from walking directly up to the building where students are gathering, in order to maintain social distancing procedures. It might be a good idea to talk with your child about this transition and have a plan to say goodbye to your child at the fence line. Staff will be present to escort them to their zone and monitor their safety.
If you are dropping off your child via automobile, parents/guardians will be asked to remain in their car and use the drop off lane. Parents/guardians may park their car, but only your child may exit the car and walk to the school building at 8:45 AM. If you are concerned about your child walking across the parking lot, then please use the drop off lane, where staff will assist students from their car to the curb safely starting at 8:45 AM.
Finally, in keeping with maintaining a safe campus and adhering to social distances guidelines, a reminder the playground will not be open for use during school hours (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM). Families are welcome to use the playground outside of these hours and on Wednesdays.
I thank everyone in advance for helping our community be successful and collaborate together to ensure our kids are safe, happy, eager about school.

Beaverton Safe Routes to School
Walking and Rolling is Good for the Earth!
April is the month we celebrate EarthDay and one way you can help our planet and combat climate change is to replace car trips with active ones!
2 miles of driving = 1.6 lbs of carbon emissions!
Think about local car trips that your family takes often. Maybe it is a trip to the park or a friend’s house. Map your route and try walking or biking instead. We often think places are farther than they seem. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your location and be amazed at what your body can do for you!

Appointments are now available!
The link to schedule an online Clothes for Kids Appointment is under the Families tab on the District's website. Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or on Wednesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
To see open appointment slots, families need to click on a calendar date that works for them, then select either a Large Family (4 or more students) or a Small Family (1 - 3 students). After they've indicated the family size, open appointments for a date selected will be on the right side of the screen. If times are not shown, either family size has not been selected or they need to select a different date on the calendar. They need to click on the time that works for them and then complete a short form to book the appointment. While online is best, families can all call 503-356-4322 to schedule an appointment. (Press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish.)
District staff are more than welcome to schedule appointments for families. When you book the appointment, if needed, you can leave your information under the contact questions and fill out the remainder of the form with the student's information. On the day of the appointment, families will be asked to complete another very short form with the student's information.
In addition to scheduling the appointment, if needed and appropriate, you can shop for the family. You would just need to have an idea of what the student needs, their sizes and preferences. If you'd like to shop for several students and/or families, please book a 45 min timeslot. Volunteers will be there to help you.
Appointments are not needed to make a donation. Donations are best when Clothes for Kids is open during the times listed above. Or, there are two donation bins on the walkway in front of the program that are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Nutrition Services Information
Dear BSD Families,
The start of In-Person Hybrid Instruction is right around the corner, and our Nutrition Services department has been hard at work developing a plan for how to continue to provide free meals for all children during both Hybrid and CDL. The USDA has provided waivers for the rest of the school year that allow any child (ages 1-18) to access free meals.
Starting April 5, meal service via bus routes will be discontinued.
If you attend Hybrid Elementary School:
● Hybrid students can receive a free daily meal bag to take home.
● Two days of meals will be sent home on Tuesday.
● No registration is required.
If you attend Hybrid Middle School:
● Hybrid students can eat lunch for free at school on the days that they attend in-person instruction.
● Free meal bags with breakfasts, lunches, and supper snacks will be available for students to take home at the end of their in-person school day to cover days they attend school from home and/or asynchronously.

If you attend CDL or are a non-enrolled community child:
● All CDL students and children not enrolled in the Beaverton School District can access a free 5-Day Meal Bag every Wednesday from 11am-12pm.
