Our Pledge To Students and Families!
As a Lake View team of educators, we are committed to creating a welcoming school that empowers each student to unlock their unlimited potential!
Greetings! I hope all of our Cardinal families are safe and well! We have had a wonderful month of February at Lake View that included Kindness Week and Black History Month! We are looking forward to an incredible month of March as well!
Student Goal Setting! Following our winter benchmark assessments, most students will be or already have gone through their goal setting process. Students will individually set academic goals for the coming months, identify areas of strength and growth, and identify action steps to meet those goals. We believe student goal setting is a powerful tool in nurturing student ownership over their own learning. Please ask your student about their new goals!
Family Literacy and Goal Sharing Night! Please join us on March 9th from 5:00 to 7:00PM! This is an opportunity for your student to share their academic goals, as well as their action steps and progress towards those goals. It is also an opportunity to learn about how we teach literacy skills and engage in some fun literacy activities with your family! There will be a free dinner for everyone and the book fair will be open! See you there!
Cardinal Character Trait of the Month! Our character trait of the month for March is Empathy! Empathy is seeking to understand others’ feelings and experiences and being a good listener. We will be intentionally teaching and reinforcing Empathy throughout the month. Please join us in this effort!
Thanks for your partnership! Let’s make it another great month at Lake View!

Learning To Solve Your Own Problems
Your child will face many challenges as they grow, whether it is starting school, joining a sporting team or going to their first sleepover. The ability to make decisions and solve problems develops as your child learns to cope with daily challenges. Young children are not expected to sort through every issue on their own, and it is likely that they will require lots of guidance from their family. The good news is, encouraging your child to take part in problem solving will help them develop this skill over time.
The following steps are a useful guide to teaching your child about problem solving. Encourage your child to take part so that they can slowly learn to do it for themselves.
This step can be difficult as children do not always have the words to tell you how they feel or know exactly what the problem is. Finding a quiet space where your child feels comfortable and relaxed may help them to start talking about it. Using your active listening skills will also help your child to feel understood and supported in talking to you.
The students have been learning some simple problem solving skills: Walk away, talk it out/tell them to stop, Ignore and go to another activity.
Once your child has tried the solution, check in with your child as soon as possible. Did it work? If not, why not? What could your child try next? Remember to give your child lots of support and encouragement if the solution didn’t work out.
Remember, it is best to begin when your child is feeling calm and relaxed. Start with an issue where you know they are likely to experience some success. If your child is very anxious or angry, help them to calm down first (ex. having some quiet time, taking some deep breaths) or leave problem solving for another day or another issue when you know your child is ready to participate.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS EVERY DAY!
Students need appropriate bedtimes, morning routines, and breakfast. Free breakfast and lunch is provided daily at Washington. If your student complains about not wanting to go to school, reach out to our office staff and we would be happy to work with you and provide support.
Missing only 15 days (about 1.5 days per month) in a school year has been proven to negatively impact the chance that your student can read or do math at grade-level. Consistent attendance is the foundation to success at school and is essential for student achievement and well-being.FREE SCHOOL MEALS!
Lake View Elementary
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the principal at Lake View Elementary School! I have had the privilege of serving as principal for five years at Lake View. I was formerly a teacher and assistant principal in the Auburn School District. I am a Washington State University graduate and die hard Coug! I enjoy being outdoors, camping, and spending time with my wonderful wife and two children! I hope to have the opportunity to learn more about each of you as we progress through your child’s journey at Lake View!
It is my pleasure to serve the students and families of the Lake View community! At Lake View we are committed to creating a welcoming school that empowers each child to unlock their unlimited potential. We are intentional about following through with that commitment each day as reflected in our daily student greetings, our systems for supporting all learners, and our belief that all students are college bound if they choose to be!
To do this work right, it requires all of us! I encourage you to engage in your child’s educational experience, whatever that may look like for you. We are on a path of maximizing long term hope for each student and I look forward to partnering with you along the way.
