“It feels good to have people back in here, finally. I know it's only 25% but hopefully more is coming,” said Michael Libretta in September. He is the co-owner of Bravo Pizza, one of the first eateries to open in 2020. (Staten Island Advance File Photo)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Of all the times to open a restaurant, these proprietors chose 2020. Or maybe 2020 chose them to be the sunshine in an otherwise gloomy year.

“Everyone’s thankful to the community for their support of small business. Hopefully everyone continues to do that so when the good times come we can be back to normal,” said Mark Bellmier, co-owner of In Fine Fettle health food eatery of Castleton Corners. He and business partner Gary Brower opened their second location on Nov. 1 in Annadale.
