It looks at trends in the business and issues affecting the various establishments in the borough. And owners can tell some tavern tales along the way.

This week, we’re back at Griff’s Place in New Dorp Beach having coffee and breakfast with Jim Stayoch of Adobe Blues and Dominick “Griff” Griffo. Griff and Stayoch shared their restaurant stories and took a little tour behind the bar to peek into the tiny kitchen where the pub grub magic happens.
We’ll be back here at Griff’s, by the way, 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 — typically the busiest bar day/night of the year. But that’s down the road.

For now, see where the conversation takes us this week in a 20-minute chit-chat with the proprietors of two unique eateries. Adobe closes on Mondays these days and new hours are from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Griff’s is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to midnight (normally til 4 a.m. but not in the pandemic recovery.)
Last week, loyal Griff’s patron Kevin Collins recently pointed out that the bathrooms and concessions on the ferry were closed. You can learn a lot from the regulars here — and make some friends — for some true Staten Island stories.
