STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York State released the results of Regents exams across every district and school, which showed the level of proficiency among high school students.

To receive a high school diploma, most students are required to take at least five Regents exams, which measure student achievement in high school-level choices. Those required exams include English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and an additional Regents exam.

There are three times each year when students can take Regents exams — January, June and August.

Due to the ongoing impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the state said it may not be appropriate to compare 2021-2022 New York State standardized assessment results with results from prior years. And all administrations of the U.S. History and Government (Framework) exam for August 2021, January 2022 and June 2022 were canceled.

Students can receive a score from Levels 1-5 for each Regents exam. Students are deemed proficient if they receive a score of 3 and above, according to the state.

Here’s a look at how Staten Island did on each Regents exam for the 2021-2022 school year, compared to the rest of the state.
