Gender Affirming Services for Youth under 16 at PPMM

At PPMM, we strive to serve every patient to the best of our abilities. We are not currently able to prescribe puberty blockers or gender affirming hormones therapy to youth under 16. Transgender and gender diverse youth are welcome to access the rest of our services, including birth control, STI testing and treatment and more.

Youth who are interested in puberty blockers and/or gender affirming hormone therapy are currently advised to get a referral from their Primary Care Provider (PCP) for services at one of the following:

  • UCLA Gender Health Program
  • UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center Clinic

Both of these clinics have multidisciplinary teams for supporting transgender and gender diverse youth and their families.

Both accept most insurance plans - with PCP referral - and both offer telehealth appointments, which may make the service more accessible for those unable to travel to Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Hormone Self-Injection Information

Some hormones used for Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy are administered through an injection that is performed at home by the person using the hormone, or the person using hormones might have someone they trust give them the injection.

Your clinician will discuss your hormone therapy options with you to select the right option for you. If you will be using an injectable hormone. PPMM staff can provide training on how to give yourself an injection, and there are videos for your reference here on our website.
