More than 11,000 new COVID-19 cases reported, setting 1-day record

The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that there were 11,406 new cases of coronavirus reported Thursday, bringing the statewide total to 386,837. This is the highest daily increase of COVID-19 cases on record.

There are 10,944 deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 187. Currently, 5,071 patients are hospitalized with the disease, 89 more since the last report. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients within the same demographic.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Nov. 20 to Nov. 26 stood at 11.7%.

The number of tests administered within the last seven days between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 is 381,784 with 47,602 positive cases. There were 67,067 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., Dec. 2. This is the highest number of test results reported to date.

Mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home. Consistent mask-wearing is critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

There are 19,305 individuals who have a positive viral antigen test and are considered probable cases and 642 individuals who have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure.

There are 2,872,557 people who have tested negative to date.

The age breakdown of those who have tested positive for the coronavirus is as follows:

  • Ages 0-4: Approximately 1%
  • Ages 5-12: Approximately 3%
  • Ages 13-18: Approximately 5%
  • Ages 19-24: Approximately 12%
  • Ages 25-49: Approximately 37%
  • Ages 50-64: Approximately 22%
  • Ages 65+: Approximately 20%
