On Wednesday, Jason “Jay” Hill became Harrisburg’s fourth homicide victim in 2020.
The 21-year-old had been class president and homecoming king during his senior year at John Harris High School. And a GoFundMe set up in the wake of Hill’s death hopes to help his family pay for the cost of an unexpected funeral.
The fundraiser asks to help show Hill’s mother that her city supports her and that the community is trying to stop the violence.
Harrisburg police said they were called to the 500 block of Curtin Street for reports of a traffic crash, but found Hill at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a hospital but died as a result of his injuries, police said.
A damaged vehicle could be seen at the crime scene Wednesday evening, but police have not released information on the role the crash played in the shooting.
A GoFundMe set up for Hill’s family says he lost his life on the streets of Harrisburg, in an “unexpected and horrible tragedy.”
The fundraiser asks to help show Hill’s mother that her city supports her and that the community is trying to stop the violence.
Harrisburg has had the most violent start to a year in recent memory, with four homicides already recorded in the city. Four additional injury shootings have occurred just in the last week.
Police are still investigating all shootings, including whether there is any connections between then.
