Person suspected in fatal Harrisburg shooting cooperating with police: DA Marsico

Malik Mundy, 20, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body late Sunday. Police are investigating the homicide.

The person responsible for firing the fatal shot, killing 20-year-old Malik Mundy in Hall Manor has been cooperating with police, according to county officials.

The incident is still under investigation by city police, but officials are looking into whether the person was properly licensed to carry a firearm, said Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico Jr.

If the person is found to be licensed to carry the weapon, the district attorney's office will consider whether the gun was fired in self-defense.  It is too early, Marsico said, to say whether any charges are in the works or if police are considering clearing the person in the incident.

Police have not identified the person involved in the incident. And police Chief Thomas Carter said he could not discuss the homicide any further on Tuesday night because it is still under investigation.

More information regarding the case is expected to be released at the conclusion of the criminal investigation.

"The investigation is fluid, but it is moving quickly, so hopefully we will have more information in the coming days," Marsico said.

Police first responded to the area of 31 row Hall Manor for reports that a man had been shot shortly after 11:50 p.m. on Sunday.  Officers arrived to find Mundy lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

Mundy was free from police custody on $50,000 bail at the time of the shooting, according to online court records.  A professional bondsman posted the money, which stemmed from drug possession charges in an alleged Jan. 27 incident.

A preliminary hearing on the charges was scheduled for April 20, but had been postponed, and no new date had been set, according to court clerks.

Police are investigating Mundy's death as the second homicide in the city in 48-hours over the course of one weekend.  Officers are continuing to search for John M. McDonald III in connection with the death of Todd A. Dunlap, who was shot dead early Saturday morning outside of an after-hours club in the city's Allison Hill neighborhood.

Family members gathered near a homemade memorial on Monday and described Mundy as a happy and loving person, who loved to be with his family.

Family members were no strangers to mourning as a result of gun violence. Mundy's half-brother Charles L. Tate III was killed in an early morning shooting in September of 2014 in the 300 block of South 14th Street in the city.

Investigators were continuing to interview eyewitnesses to the incident and people of interest on Monday.
