Schools Over Violence (SOV) is Peace Over Violence’s comprehensive model for providing prevention and intervention services in our educational institutions.

SOV aligns with our current efforts to ignite and sustain a community-wide movement to eliminate interpersonal violence that is inclusive of at-risk young people, their families, their direct service providers and the institutions that serve them. To create a cultural shift to one in which relationship violence is not tolerated, SOV tailors POV’s tested and successful strategies––individual and group support, public education, workforce training, community organizing, advocacy, youth leadership development, and expertise in branding and design––to our school communities. The overarching vision of SOV is an improved school climate (in public secondary school settings) as a result of realigning and integrating school-based responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking so that they reflect a coordinated, holistic and replicable approach to responding to unhealthy behaviors.

The four main components of SOV include

  • Prevention, leadership, and intervention services for youth
  • Educational workshops and leadership training for parents and caregivers
  • Awareness and response training for school-site faculty and staff
  • Prevention and response protocol and policy development
