paperbark

interdisciplinary print & digital magazine

Paperbark lives at the confluence of text and image, science and art. We believe in an obligation to a livable future nurtured through sustainability and collaborations between generations, populations, and fields of thought. Rooted in stewardship and committed to art’s transformative capacities, Paperbark gathers portrayals of ecologies in crisis—as well as evidence of life’s flourishing intricacies.

web features

In the early months of the year, Paperbark spends time in the digital realm, publishing our Spring Online Journal content on a rolling basis. Video, audio, and hybrid works may find a home here, alongside creative prose, criticism, artwork, and photography. Our online presence is free to access. Paperbark nominates for Best of the Net & other relevant awards.

We are now open for Spring Online Journal submissions through May 1, 2024. We look forward to reviewing your work!

our print issue

In the late summer, Paperbark opens submissions for our annual print issue. We accept work from both individuals and collectives, and are open to hybrid projects alongside more traditional literary magazine fare. Submissions are free and all contributors are offered two copies of the issue in which their work appears.

Submissions for our next print edition, Issue 06, are not yet open.
