Three appointed to Oregon Supreme Court, Court of Appeals by Gov. Kate Brown

Governor Kate Brown on Monday announced three appointments to the Oregon Supreme Court and Oregon Court of Appeals -- including the first Asian Pacific American to sit on the high court.

  • Lynn Nakamoto, who has been

Nakamoto received her law degree from New York University.

She then worked for two years representing indigent clients in the Bronx and for two years in Marion and Polk counties before going to work for the Portland law firm of Markowitz Herbold. She worked on business and employment litigation there for the next 22 years.

Nakamoto is filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Virginia Linder.

Roger DeHoog

  • Roger DeHoog, who has worked as

DeHoog graduated with a law degree from the University of Oregon. He started his career at the Deschutes County Public Defenders' Office in 1993 and worked there for the next seven years. He went on to work in private practice representing clients in criminal and domestic relations cases.

He then worked as a senior assistant attorney general at the Oregon Department of Justice, where he dealt with major state litigation on environmental, constitutional and consumer protection matters.

  • Scott Shorr, who is

The governor's office describes him as "one of the state's top appellate lawyers," having frequently argued before the state's appellate courts, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.

He graduated with a law degree from Berkeley. He worked as a law clerk for Oregon Supreme Court Justice Richard Unis, before starting work at Stoll Berne. He specialized in commercial litigation including class actions and securities fraud cases, and worked there for the past 19 years.
