The dispensary owned by Curaleaf in Bordentown Township began adult weed sales on Tuesday, becoming the 20th store in New Jersey to sell legalized recreational adult marijuana.
The company officially announced the launch of adult weed sales in Bordentown and other details of the launch in a press release on Wednesday, a day after the unannounced soft opening and less than a week after getting its final state approvals.
“We are thrilled to expand adult-use sales to Curaleaf Bordentown, which now allows us to serve both medical and adult-use customers across our entire New Jersey footprint,” said Matt Darin, Chief Executive Officer of Curaleaf in the release. “Curaleaf is committed to ensuring our patients and consumers receive quality products and service as they embark on their cannabis journey. We’d like to thank the Bordentown Township for their continued partnership and for welcoming us into the community.”
Store hours for adult weed purchases are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in Bordentown.
The launch makes it the third and final location in the state owned by Curaleaf to offer both medical and adult recreational cannabis. The firm began adult weed sales in Bellmawr during the statewide launch on April 21. One month later it began offering it in Edgewater Park after resolving parking issues at the site.
Curaleaf Bordentown received final state approvals to expand into adult weed at the eight-month old dispensary located at 191 U.S.-Route 130 last Thursday.
Curaleaf, the state’s largest grower of cannabis and one of the nation’s largest in terms of revenue and footprint, originally hoped to land state approvals at the board’s Sept. 9 meeting. When that didn’t happen, Curaleaf wrote an appeal letter to the panel.
“The Township congratulates Curaleaf on receiving State approval for the expansion of cannabis sales at the Bordentown location,” Township Administrator Michael Theokas said in an email. “Curaleaf has been a good corporate citizen and we look forward to growing our relationship. The new revenues the Township will receive will go a long way towards building on our existing education, treatment, and other community service programs.”
Curaleaf said the Bordentown dispensary will continue to prioritize New Jersey’s licensed medical patients as mandated by the CRC. Medical patient exclusive shopping hours will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Medical patients will also have their own private consultation areas, a secure online ordering system, exclusive checkout lines and designated parking spots at the Bordentown dispensary. Products being offered will range from Select Squeeze, a fast-acting THC beverage enhancer, as well as Select’s best-selling Elite and Elite Live oil and B NOBLE two-pack pre-rolls, according to the release.
With Curaleaf Bordentown’s opening, that leaves one other location in play before the new year begins.
Ascend Fort Lee plans to appear before the township Planning Board on Nov. 14, after launching strictly medical cannabis in a former Staples store in Fort Lee on Aug. 12.
Ascend already received state approvals months ago and just needs the municipality to sign off on adult weed to become the 21st store in New Jersey offering it.
The other locations selling adult weed in addition to Curaleaf’s three locations are: Verano, under the Zen Leaf banner, in Elizabeth, Lawrence and Neptune; Acreage, at The Botanist Williamstown and The Botanist Egg Harbor; Green Thumb, which uses the RISE banner, at RISE Bloomfield and RISE Paterson; TerrAscend, under The Apothecarium banner, in Maplewood, Phillipsburg and Lodi; The Cannabist/Columbia Care, in Deptford and Vineland; Garden State Medical Dispensary owned by AYR in Woodbridge, Eatontown and Union; and Ascend in Rochelle Park and most recently, in Montclair, which opened for adult weed on Aug. 19.
History has shown that after a location receives both municipal and state approvals in New Jersey, it has offered adult weed within 10 to 14 days.
Curaleaf Bordentown opened within five days of getting state approvals. The company said it was able to because it was already serving the adult medical marijuana population at Curaleaf’s two other two state locations and was fully prepared with inventory and staffing to launch adult weed within days.
