SOUTH HAVEN, MICH. -- A southwest Michigan glamping destination billed as the first of its kind in the Midwest is expanding its luxe offerings for the 2021 season.

The Fields of Michigan, located in South Haven, is adding an indoor/outdoor cocktail bar, “Treehouse Spa,” and nine additional guest tents, nearly doubling guest capacity ahead of its third year of operations.

Founder Irene Wood opened The Fields in late spring 2019, offering amenities like plush accommodations and chef-prepared meals to create a "duality between the wonderment of the outdoors and the luxuries of a five-star resort.”

“We have spent the last year establishing amazing connections with our guests and listening to their enthusiastic feedback with open ears,” Wood said in a statement. “It became clear very quickly that now is the time for us to thoughtfully build upon the beautiful foundation that we’ve created while maintaining the charming and intimate environment that we’re known for.”

The 30-acre property’s expansions for 2021 include the “Treehouse Spa” -- which will indeed be tucked into treetops, surrounded by pines -- that will accommodate up to two guests for individual and couple’s treatments, including massage and aromatherapies.

Meanwhile, a new indoor/outdoor bar and refreshment area will serve smoothies and juices made from local produce, craft cocktails starring blueberries and herbs grown onsite, and beer and wine.

The new guest tents will bring the resort’s total to 19. Each will accommodate up to two adults and two children, with amenities that include a wood-burning stove, private outdoor firepit, king-size bed, luxury linens, en-suite bathrooms, luxury bathroom amenities and towels, and stylized fixtures and seating. Room rates start at $350.

“Having the opportunity to nearly double our occupancy capacity and add new luxury amenities to our repertoire during this unprecedented time is deeply meaningful to us,” said Wood, referencing the pandemic that’s found many people seeking outdoor-based, socially distant travel options. “We look forward to creating these additional avenues for guests to safely behold our one-of-a-kind, curated experience.”

Expansion construction was projected to begin this fall after the camping season had closed. Reservations for guest tents and spa treatments are open now at thefieldsofmichigan.com for the 2021 season, slated to run from Memorial Day through the end of October.
