1. Get a MAXQDA Account
MAXQDA Transcription is accessible via the MAXQDA Account website. Therefore, you need a free MAXQDA account to use our automatic transcription service. Upon creating your MAXQDA account and visiting the transcription webpage, you will receive a one-time offer of 60 free minutes for transcription, allowing you to extensively test the automatic transcription for your data.
2. Visit the MAXQDA Transcription website
The MAXQDA Transcription website is integrated into your MAXQDA account. To visit the MAXQDA Transcription website, log in to your MAXQDA account, then click on the button Transcribe online. On the MAXQDA Transcription website, you can redeem your transcription time, upload and transcribe your media files, and download the received transcript.
3. Upload media file & choose transcription settings
Click on the button “Upload Media File” to upload your audio and/or video files for the automatic transcription. All popular file formats are supported. To further support your research MAXQDA Transcription is available in numerous languages. Simply choose the language of your audio recording from our extensive list of languages and dialects. Enhance transcription precision by adding a custom glossary of uncommon terms, jargon, or specialized terminology. Your content will be transcribed with the utmost accuracy.
4. Download transcripts
Once the transcription job is complete, you can download the transcripts by clicking the Download Transcript button. You can see the current status of the transcription process and the remaining time needed in the column “Status”. Your transcripts will be deleted automatically 7 days after you downloaded them first. By clicking on the trash bin, you can delete a transcript anytime.

3. Import your recording
Take advantage of the automatic transcription feature: Import your media file into MAXQDA and choose “Transcribe” in the following dialogue or right-click on your already imported audio or video file and select “Transcribe Automatically with MAXQDA Transcription“. All popular file formats are supported.
4. Choose your settings
To further support your research MAXQDA Transcription is available in numerous languages. Simply choose the language of your audio recording from our extensive list of languages and dialects. Enhance transcription precision by adding a custom glossary of uncommon terms, jargon, or specialized terminology. Your content will be transcribed with the utmost accuracy.
5. See the status
The MAXQDA interface is designed so that keeping the overview about your transcript status is easy. An indicator shows ongoing transcription processes and you receive a notification once the transcript is finished and automatically imported to your project file where it can be reviewed and further edited.
6. Review and edit
We provide you with a clean, accurate transcription, but you have the final say. Review and edit your transcript with MAXQDA’s Onboard and easy-to-use Editing Tools.
