Sir Martin Sorrell’s Post

View profile for Sir Martin Sorrell

Executive Chairman at S4 Capital

Last week our S4 Capital Group Executive Committee held its first meeting ever in VR thanks to Facebook’s Oculus headsets and the new Horizon Workrooms app. It was quite the experience stepping into the metaverse and returning to tell the tale! Meanwhile, our experts at Media.Monks have just released a brilliant report that broadly covers the opportunities enabled by virtualisation, and the possibilities that abound as the metaverse comes into being. I highly recommend giving it a read here:  https://monk.media/2ZUKJJr

Expectation is everything. While i'm sure you guys had a great experience (it sounds like), I've read of some terrible accounts of Horizon (eg, better to just get a WOW account and meet in a safe-space). Talking of safespace, that's the part Im also interested in with the metaverse. How do we ensure that there ARE safe-spaces for people who eventually 'must' partake to be able to live in a society? How do we ensure, like pharma filing patents on nature, that certain physical and natural spaces like mosques, churches, listed buildings, national parks etc cannot be 'taken over' by predominant platforms that "own the overlay"?

I am sure the metaverse will be futuristic, mindblowing experience but I think I would prefer to stick with real life with real human contact and will encourage my children to stick with real friends and real daily experiences too.

This is one of the most useful pieces of information I've read on Linkedin, full stop. The future of VR is undeniable and the vision's outlined are just scratching the surface but it's a great read with tons of food for thought for anyone in the media space.

It's really interesting to consider how all of the events of the last 18 month are changing the way we work. Remote work is likely here to stay in some form or another - VR takes it to the next level. It will be interesting to see the innovations in the VR space in the next few years and how 'doing business' will change globally.

It’s such a mind blowing concept but so exciting. If only we could use this for the home schooling we are still having to endure. The kids could all be in class with their teacher each day but still be at home!

Why not host your meeting for 1000's in a private Virtual space? No need for expensive headsets just download and immerse yourself. #virbela
