March 2024 Recipients

Joselyn Ramirez

Joselyn Janell Ramirez is a junior at Martin High School and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. She is currently ranked 26th in her class and is taking college classes at Martin High and the Trevino Magnet School. 

Joselyn is actively involved in the Martin community where she is a dedicated member in the band’s percussion section. She also finds time to participate in the school’s FFA program where she raised two rabbits; Salt and Pepper. Joselyn is also in the National Honor Society and is an officer for the Mighty Class of 2025.

Her favorite part of the school day is when she is at VMT where she ends her day and gets to relax and practice the piano.

Joselyn’s main goal is attending UT Austin to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Acting with a minor in photography. She hopes to pursue a career in acting or to come back home and help her community in music or as a teacher.  

In her spare time, Joselyn enjoys reading, playing the piano and working on puzzles. 

She is a true product of Laredo ISD having attended Milton Elementary, Alma Pierce Elementary and Christen Middle School. Joselyn is the daughter of Juan and Candy Ramirez.

Maya Lopez

Maya Isela Lopez is a 10th grader at Nixon High School and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. She is currently ranked 25th in her class and is a true representative of the gold standard set at Nixon High School.

She is actively involved in the Nixon High School Yearbook, UIL One Act Play, and the Film Club. At VMT she is part of the choir. 

During the summer time she volunteers her free time with the public shows put on by LTGI and LLT. Maya has been in Frozen, Mary Poppins Jr., and the Little Mermaid. She also helps out with a local rotary organization.

She hopes to attend the University of Texas and study life science (Biology or Microbiology). She plans to major in Biology, so she can start her career in Virology to study viruses and virus-like agents. 

Her hobbies include baking and dancing. She also enjoys reading in her spare time. 

She attended Ryan Elementary School and Lamar Middle School. She is the daughter of Goyo and Blasita Lopez.

America Hernandez

America Hernandez is a ninth-grade student at Cigarroa High School and the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) where she is enrolled in CAD classes. 

America’s favorite part of the school day is when she is attending her P-Tech classes. Her fifth period animated drawing class allows her to draw and explore her imagination.  She is looking forward to taking computer science next semester, so she can prepare for her future career in computer aided drafting. America wants to follow her father’s footsteps and work in Construction.

She is a member of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and was a member of the Toro Band where she was selected to the TMEA All-Region Band. America is certified in Office Word 2016 and Excel 2019 Associate. 

America plans on attending the University of North Texas and is still deciding on her major. 

She attended Milton Elementary School and Lamar Middle School. America is the daughter of Jose and Belinda Hernandez.

Rodrigo Graniel

Rodrigo Graniel Vaugier is a junior at Garcia Early College and is ranked 11th in his class. He is also an honor student who is dual enrolled at TAMIU where he has a 4.0 GPA.

This past summer, Rodrigo interned at his uncle's Biotechnology lab in Tabasco, Mexico where he learned and shadowed the staff as they worked on in vitro fertilization specializing in cattle.  

He is currently a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, school’s newspaper, the Phoenix Quarterly, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.  

Rodrigo dedicates time, not only to his academics and extracurricular activities, he makes time to give back to his community. For instance, he has volunteered time and effort in supervising and aiding young children in weekend retreats with Saint Patrick’s Church. He is also a member of the schools’ HOPE Organization that is dedicated to community service. 

Outside of school he enjoys playing tennis, drawing and writing. 

He plans on attending Texas A&M University or Rice University. His main goal is to study Biotechnology. Rodrigo is passionate about the chance to follow his family's footsteps in the biotechnology field. 

He attended Santos Benavides Elementary School and United Middle School. Rodrigo is the son of Eugenio and Gabriella Graniel.

Alejandro Gabriel Morales

Alejandro Gabriel Morales is an 8th grade honor roll student at L. J. Christen Middle School. He is a proud member of the Christen Middle School Band Symphonic Winds.

Alejandro earned a spot for the Region 14 All Region Band, two years in a row. He dedicates his musical talent as a percussionist.  

His favorite part of the school day is when he attends band rehearsals where he gets to practice his percussion instrument. 

In his free time, he practices martial arts and holds a brown belt. Alejandro enjoys spending time playing with his friends and spending time with his family.

Alejandro plans to attend Martin High School and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. He is undecided about what college he will attend, but hopes to get a degree in Art. 

He attended Santa Maria Elementary School. Alejandro is the son of Carlos and Raquel Morales.

Olivia Palumbo

A Product of Milton Elementary School, Olivia Palumbo, is a sixth-grade student at Lamar Middle School. 

Olivia is a member of the girls’ basketball team, Honor Society and One Act Play. 

Her favorite part of the school day is when she is in her 8th period math class. 

In her free time, she likes to play basketball and spend time with her friends and family. 

Olivia will be attending Nixon High School and The Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. 

Her main goal for her future is to attend the University of Texas or Texas A&M University and earn her college degree. Olivia is the daughter of William and Vanessa Palumbo.

Ronaldo Jimenez

Cigarroa Middle School seventh grader, Ronaldo Jimenez is an outstanding student with a positive attitude and treats his teachers and peers with respect and kindness. 

Ronaldo sets a great example to those around him and is a great representative of CMS Pride. 

Ronaldo's hobbies include playing soccer with the Rayados, a local traveling team. He also enjoys boxing in his spare time. 

Ronaldo is undecided about what college he will attend, but plans to pursue a career as a firefighter and open a business. He aspires to open a barber shop and a sneaker shop. 

He attended Daiches Elementary School. Ronaldo is the son of his proud parents Sandra Valdivia and Abimael Jimenez.

Francisco Perez

Memorial Middle School sixth grader Francisco Perez is an exceptional student who is a leader and a role model to his peers. He is a driven student with excellent attendance. 

Fransisco enjoys coming to school daily to study. He especially loves his Reading and Math, and History classes.  He hopes to join the school’s band and art club next year.

At home, Francisco devotes his time to his pet and his family. He enjoys walking and bathing his German Shepard, and helping with chores around the house.  

Francisco will attend Martin High School and plans to apply to an LISD early college program and pursue a degree in education. 

He would like to one day work for the district as a teacher.  

He attended JC Martin Elementary School. Fransisco is the son of Juan Perez and Maria Sandrete.
