Semester Exchange Programs

Students at Lamar University can spend a semester or an entire academic year abroad through our international partner institutions. During semester exchange, students stay enrolled at Lamar University, but take their courses (all taught in English) at one of the following universities. If a student has an interest in learning the local language, they have the opportunity to take introductory language courses.

Student Exchange Fast Facts

  • Students get all of their courses pre-approved before applying to the program and enroll in placeholder courses at Lamar University which allows them to pay their tuition as normal
  • Any institution scholarships that students currently receive will apply to tuition expenses (with the exception of accommodation and meals)
  • Students who receive financial aid can choose to apply to use it to help cover the costs of tuition for their study abroad program
  • The Office of Study Abroad will assist students in saving for their semester and applying to scholarships to pay for additional expenses (accommodation, food, passport/visa, and other expenses

  • Zeppelin University (ZU)

    Lamar University prospective undergraduate international students majoring in communications, political science, economics, history, business, global studies and sociology are encouraged to experience a semester abroad at Zeppelin University! Zeppelin University (ZU) is in Friedrichshafen, Germany. ZU is a small and highly selective private research university, whose staff is committed to teaching students who are interested in exciting issues at the crossroads between economics, communication, culture, politics, and administration.

      • Eligibility: full-time enrolled student in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA (undergraduate) or 3.0 GPA (graduate).

  • Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SNUST)

    Lamar University’s undergraduate and graduate STEM students have the opportunity to spend a semester or year-long exchange at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech) is in Nowon-gu, Seoul, South Korea. SeoulTech’s vision is to create a university that dreams for the future of humanity. With this vision, SeoulTech hopes to contribute to their nation and humanity as a global university.

    Important things to know:

    • If you are a Lamar University graduate student of STEM, you have the opportunity to participate in student exchange!
      • Eligibility: full-time enrolled student in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA (undergraduate) or 3.0 GPA (graduate).

    • Exchange students are guaranteed a dorm room if they select it on the online application
  • ESC Rennes School of Business

    Lamar University students have the opportunity to spend a semester or year-long exchange at the ESC Rennes School of Business in France. ESC Rennes is one of the most innovative, responsible, and resilient business schools in Europe with 55% of its student body consisting of foreign exchange students from all over the world.

    “The international focus of Rennes School of Business is reflected by a wide range of programs taught entirely in English. Rennes School of Business, located in Britanny welcomes international exchange or non-exchange students, from all over the world. Our International School of Management offers effective and innovative teaching methods including a problem-solving approach and hands-on experience. This encourages cross-fertilization of ideas, international teamwork, and creative and independent thinking.” The Rennes School of Business

    Housing

    • Rennes has a partnership with Studapart, an accommodation platform for students, and students will need to secure housing independently with the help of the Office of Study Abroad (these are similar to apartments)
  • National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology

    Lamar University’s graduate students with STEM related majors have the opportunity to spend a semester or year long exchange at NKUST! National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) is in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Since its establishment in 2018, NKUST has become one of the largest technological universities in Taiwan. As a growing university NKUST hopes to become the think tank of Kaohsiung and the base of southern Taiwan’s industry development.

    “As the result of the merger, NKUST not only incorporates the strengths of the three universities—strong connections with industries, innovation and entrepreneurship, and ocean technologies—into the new university, but it also has great advantages in the aspects of vast campuses, strong human resources, complementary resources, and diverse cultural assets, which makes a lively and vigorous academic community and learning environment for students.”

  • Chungnam National University (CNU)

    Lamar University’s undergraduate students with STEM related majors have the opportunity to spend a semester or year long exchange at Chungnam National University! Chungnam National University (CNU) is in Daejeon, South Korea. CNU prepares their students under the educational motto of “Creativity, Development, and Service to the Community.” Under this motto, CNU has become one of the most prestigious universities in the central region of Korea. CNU values international relations highly, and offers multiple scholarships for international students, including a free Korean language course.

    CNU’s Mission:

    Chungnam National University’s mission is to provide students with academic theories and application methods which are integral for the development of the nation and human society as a whole, and which nurture creativity, service, mind, spirit, and leadership skills.

    • All exchange students can opt to stay in CNU's dormitory which includes a meal plan
  • The University of Alicante (UA)

    The University of Alicante in Spain offers courses taught in English for the majority of Lamar University's students studying a variety of disciplines! Study in Alicante for a semester or year. The University of Alicante (UA) is known for being “bilingual” at its campus and has courses taught in Spanish and English. You do not need to know Spanish to participate in this program and the course list below lists all courses taught in English. UA has recently added a graduate program in economics that is taught in English. If you happen to be a business student, you qualify for a large scholarship through LU's College of Business.
