Celebrate our nation’s independence with old fashioned family fun! Visit Historic Richmond Town over Independence Day Weekend for a weekend of special programming and events. Meet costumed interpreters and living historians portraying soldiers, tradespeople, and founding fathers. Sign your name to a copy of the Declaration of Independence, enjoy demonstrations of 19th century fireworks, food, cold beer, patriotic music, Revolutionary era muskets and MORE!

New York City’s living history village is the perfect backdrop for an educational and inspirational observation of American Independence.

Daily Activities:

  • Sign your name to the Declaration of Independence.

  • Visit historic houses and shops for live demonstrations of historic trades, including tinsmithing, hearth cooking, and more.

  • Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will regale audiences with Staten Island Seas Stories & Sea Monsters.

  • Participate in a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence and march in a Patriot’s Parade through the center of Town.

  • Meet living historians portraying George Washington and Betsy Ross.

  • A Reading from Frederick Douglass’s 1852 Speech, “What to the Slave is the 4th of July?”

  • Learn about The Science Behind Fireworks, a demonstration by The UnXld Firework Company (1888-1944).

  • Phydeaux’s Flying Flea Circus and Wahoo Medicine Show re-creates the midway amusements of the 19th century, with shows all day.

  • Food Vendors will be on hand all weekend, including pies, ice cream, and cold beer.

Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will present Stories of Staten Island Ships, Sea Monsters, and Marvels.

Phydeaux’s Flying Flea Circus & Wahoo Medicine Show, and other historical amusements will be featured throughout the weekend.

Special Features Each Day:

July 1:

  • Live patriotic music by the Richmond County Orchestra (1pm, Courthouse Steps)

  • Ring in the Declaration of Independence with a special bell-ringing by Natalia Paruz (TheSawLady)

July 2:

  • The New Jersey Fife and Drum Corps will lead the Patriot’s Parade on July 2.

Natalia Paruz (TheSawLady) will play the handbells, rining in the Declaration of Independence on July 1st.

The New Jersey Fife and Drum Corps will perform on July 2nd.
