The Pact #2

The Honest Liar

Rate this book
Nobody likes a liar.

Yet sometimes lies are essential.

In my world, the truth can kill.

For years I tried to escape the cartel.

But will I ever be free of its pull?

I have a Big Plan, and no one is getting in my way.

Not even a stubborn, sexy cop who won’t keep her nose out of my business.

Jamie Sanderson is determined to end me.

But she doesn’t know how powerful I am.

Even so, some things are beyond my control.

Now she’s in danger.

I will do whatever is necessary to keep her safe.

I don’t want to hurt Jamie, but I’m already buried so deep in the lies that neither one of us will emerge unscathed.

Is losing her really worth seeing my plan to fruition?

***This series is a romantic suspense duet. Book 1 is Alex's story, and Book 2 is Rafael's story. While each can be read as a stand-alone, events in book 1 lead to events in book 2. Therefore, to get the full story without spoilers, it is recommended that they be read in order. These books contain strong language and adult situations. Recommended for readers ages 18 and up.***

A fun book to read which I enjoyed more as I had read the first in the series The Mocking Man. Two friends Rafe and Alex. Two ladies a cop and a lawyer. One mafia Don. Alex and his lawyer lady lived happily in book 1.

This was purely Rafe's story, a powerful son of the Mafia king who danced to his own rhythm, with a plan larger than life but enveloped in lies. Entered the cop Jamie. Attraction flared between them like wildfire.

She wanted to arrest him and throw him in prison. He wanted to be arrested in fluffy handcuffs and thrown into the bedroom. A forbidden tangy love story, but the book was not all about that. It was about Rafe's intelligence and cunningness and his ability to think outside the box.

Having read a few books by author Leslie Georgeson, I knew it would be a hot rocking read where surprises galore would dog my steps. I was right. Twists were thrown in every few chapters. Rafe was quite sly in his ways, always one step ahead of me.

I liked the determination of both the characters in their jobs. Rafe and Alex as best friends kept the pace of the book sky-high. The action scenes were doused in adrenaline, they were like those in a movie.

The chemistry between the main characters was a conflagration, the author wrote some great scorching scenes. She truly made my heart long for romance. The book was a complete action movie with intrigue and mystery, love and lust, careful planning and shocks.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE HONEST LIAR" (SUSPENSE DUET #2) Brilliantly written by Leslie Georgeson what a rollercoster ride you can't get off of right from the beginning to the end it grips you tight.
"The Mocking Man" was a fabulous read but "The Honest Liar will blow your mind so my happens you can't stop turning page after page of suspense, intrigue, mystery, secrets, lies, betrayal, deception, passion, danger, twists that make for one adrenaline pumping storyline.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Rafe and Jamie it was scorching hot but at times you wanted shake the feisty, sassy, bulldog with a bone Jamie she couldn't stay out of trouble.
Rafe had his hands full with Jamie trying to being his plan to fruition she was always getting his way bring in the wrong place at the wrong time as stong and brave she was she also was a bit naive running into situations without proper backup until partnered with Keith.
Rafael Ortiz becoming the King of Cartel to take down his dead father Alvarez business associates and the corruption in the city something the FBI, DEA, CIA hadn't been able to do with the help of BF Alex.
I defintely recommend to get this phenominal duet so well written with the fantastic well developed characters that made for one truly amazing read you don't want to miss.

I enjoyed this action-packed book and found the characters relatable and likable. The plot was engaging, although I sometimes found Rafe's secretiveness a bit too much. I understand his desire to keep things from Jamie, but it wasn't necessary to keep the reader in the dark. This led to a big explanation at the end that dragged and felt didactic, reminding me of a Scooby Doo reveal, minus the villain lamentations ("I would've gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids").

At times, internal reflections on the strength of the friendship between Rafe and Alex seemed unnecessary. Jamie's feelings of betrayal and anger were realistic, given her ignorance about peoples' motivations, but again, I feel like the reader would have appreciated her emotions just as much without being equally ignorant.

One final criticism: Some of the fight scenes with Rafe and the "bad guys" were a bit over the top and reminiscent of a superhero movie… knocked from a moving vehicle multiple times yet still able to hang on and jump back in, shot and bleeding from three wounds, multiple hits to a Kevlar vest, and still, he keeps on going. When the reader starts rolling their eyes, maybe you've gone too far. That said, I enjoyed the book and still think it's a fun read.

Loved it!! This is the second book in the series and should be read in order to fully understand as it makes references to the first. Which was great! I loved in this book how bonds of friends can be so strong. How family can be so close and stand behind each other. Rafael was such a good well thought out character. He had such a screwed up life and yet he was fierce, loyal, loving, strong, family meant everything to him. Except his father the head of the cartel, who caused his pain and others. Jamie was bullheaded, driven and enjoyed her job as a cop. She believed in the law and wanted to make a difference. She wanted to catch the bad guy, was Rafael the bad guy? Could they survive the deceit, and all the ones trying to kill them. I highly recommend this to all It is well written, keeps your attention and makes you want to see what is next. I received it as a gift and this is my voluntary review. Thank you Leslie you did good!!

Who is honest and who is a liar?

The Honest Liar is the second book in The Pact duet and what a wonderfully powerful story it is.
This book could be read as a standalone but you really should read The Mocking Man, book 1, prior to it as the story builds and the POV's are different in each book.
I originally started reading Leslie Georgeson with her The Dregs series and the same level of well written, entertaining and riveting books continues with The Pact duet. If you like to be on the edge of your seat, biting your nails and not able to sleep because you are so wrapped up in your book then this duet is the one for you.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. My opinions are all my own. I do own the first book in this duet.

Rafe tried many times to escape from his dad the cartel king who had kidnapped him from his home at 17. Alex helped him get rid of his father while he was healing a plan was put in motion to take down all of the corrupted people. Jamie the cop kept trying to arrest him but Rafe wouldn’t give her a reason for that. Along the way they fell in love, after they all got healed from the gunshots that they had Jamie finally forgave him. The DEA and the FBI arrested everyone involved. So everyone in his and Jamie, Alex and Izzy’s family were finally safe from the cartel and could live their lives without looking over their shoulders. Love it! Another great book by Leslie G.

This is the second book in The Pact Duet. Alex told his story in book one and now it is time for Rafe to show us readers more of his character. Rafe has a 'Big Plan' but that plan does not include getting involved with a cop named Jamie. Jamie is like a dog with a bone, she does not want.to let go. Can Rafe convince her to stay out of trouble? The sooner he cleans things up, the better they can be but Jamie has to quit stirring the pot. I enjoyed reading this story and getting to know Rafe more as.well as see him find his unlikely HEA. Enjoy!

This novel has it all: a compelling story, hot hero, fierce heroine, romance and a need to know plot line that keeps you coming back for more. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, The Mocking Man, which introduces the characters and sets the stage for this book, The Honest Liar, which is the second in the series. I really needed to know Rafe's story and I am always fascinated by enemies to lovers romances. Jaime and Rafe could not be farther apart, and yet they find they have a lot in common too....in and out of the bedroom. For an entertaining read that gives you some escapism, pick up this book today.

Frustrating...plot spoilers possible

Okay. First off, I always give 5 stars if a story is enjoyable and I make it to the end without lamenting the loss of time from my life. I enjoyed this duet but why was it soooo important to keep Jamie from the truth?? She obviously wasn't going to leave it alone. I mean, come on, he told Keith. If he was so worried about her safety, telling her what he was doing would have been the thing to do. She wouldn't have been so determined to prove him guilty of something. It was a good storyline from the first book but it could have been amazing. Still worth the read in my opinion.

The Honest Liar is the second book in The Pact Duet and is a great romantic suspense story.

This is Rafael's story and follows "The Mocking Man" (Alex's story). The storyline is well written and flows nicely from start to finish. The characters are well developed and have amazing chemistry together. This book has betrayal, secrets, danger, suspense, intrigue, and romance. Can Rafael convince Jamie that she should be with him instead of arresting him?

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Good story but

This has a good story line but about half way through it got so everything was very repetitive. She shouldn't be with him because she was a cop and she thought he was a criminal. He was.just as bad in his thought that he hated lying to her and he didn't deserve her. She was supposed to be a "strong" woman but to me she came across as a self centered stubborn know-it-all. I started skimming till I got towards the end where the real story picked up again

Leslie Georgeson did a great job on this story, The Honest Liar had a strong plot, it was filled with emotions, it packed with action, drama, suspense and more. The story was written well. Rafe and Jamie were strong characters, their journey wasn't an easy one but they were stronger together. They were made for each other.
I enjoyed this story. Thank you, Leslie Georgeson. Great work :)

Great characters that will keep your interest extremely well.
I'm not going to go into detail, no spoilers, just read the book if you are even mildly intrigued by the blurb. You'll thank me later!

The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting. Add in drama and passion and you have a good read.

Wonderful book - Stand-alone or (as I did) read after The Pact Book 1. Leslie Georgeson does an excellent job at building characters that immediately draw you in. Scenarios are as improbable as most romantic suspense novels are. That being said, I plan on reading as many of her books as I can find. They are easy to read an definitely captured my interest.

This is a great novel. A follow up to "The Mocking Man". Rafael's cartel head father is dead. Rafael becomes the new head of the cartel. He falls for a detective Jamie who he tries to keep her away so he can put his plan into action. This is a page turner thriller and love story.

Really, REALLY good! This was even better than the Pact #1, which was good, but not great ~ while there were a couple of glitches in flow the pacing was good and the characters are REAL. That's what I truly love about these books: the characters have become REAL, with real hangups/issues/problems/questions ~ the plot is more than plausible ~ the arc is straightforward and doesn't deviate from wrapping it all up with a lovely HEA!

~ although now I'm kinda hoping for a the Pact #3 . . . . how do both couples, the moms, and Vicky all move forward? There are many, MANY more storylines which Ms Georgeson could pursue . . . will she? I hope so!
