Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?

Interesting thought.

That's generally how my writer brain works. I've been dreaming up stories since I was in elementary school. My first book was titled "The Wonders of Unicorn Creek" and my publisher was Dehesa elementary school.

Since then, I've published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines. My story, "Immortal Beloved" was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and was recently re-released in the "Dead Souls" anthology, along with a follow-up never-before-published story, "Subito Piano".

My debut novel, Night Walker, was released in 2012 and won a San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror. Night Walker also won the Romance Through the Ages in the Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.

Since then, Night Thief and Night Demon have been released. The final book, Night Child will be released in March of 2014.

In the meantime,I have a new series beginning in July 2013 with Moonlight, Book 1 in the Moon Series.

I also post news and short stories on my Blog, so feel free to stop by for a read. http://Lisa-Kessler.com

Paranormal tales are my favorite and I tend toward the dark side. Join me? :)

Pirate’s Persuasion by Lisa Kessler
Sentinels of Savannah book 4. Paranormal romance. Best read as part of the series.
Drake is an immortal pirate and a carpenter by trade. He lost his nephew when the Sea Dog went down and it’s a loss that still haunts him.
Heather is a medium. She has helped Department 13 in the past and wants to help Drake find the Flying Dutchman since the nephew is haunting Drake with a killer banshee cry.

There is a lot going on in this book. Heather had a previous relationship with David and he feels a bit guilty for ghosting her. Heather’s sister wants the house that was willed only to Heather. And the banshees and ghosts are widening their victims to the Sea Dog crew as well as Heather.

Complex and detailed. Suspenseful and sexy. Characters from the the prior books are included. I enjoyed the romance and the electrifying height of the story but the betrayal was heartbreaking.
Definitely moving on to book 5.

4.25 stars.

Nothing screams true love like a pirate saving a girl’s life and after that’s how carpenter-slash-pirate, Drake and medium, Heather first met, their reacquaintance is less dramatic—albeit only just—after she encounters the ghost of his young nephew...who died 250 years earlier.

description There are plenty of legends about Davy Jones.”

In keeping with the series, the romance between a very likeable couple is centralised around well-known nautical folklore creating a story which gathers momentum with each page. And with screaming banshees, necromancers, ghosts and the immortal pirates and their loves who we’ve grown to the love over the series, there’s no shortage of action, adventure and passion along the way.

description …as long as she was mortal, her vulnerability would be the end of him.

Once again Lisa Kessler has created a series where each book quickly makes for addictive reading and whilst I know whose story I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on, I’ll happily take whoever is next on deck.

My review :

Will dark forces be the end of a love stronger than life ...

When I switched my reading from contemporary romance to historical’s , it was for a change of scene and something less close to home and day-to-day life even if there is no billionaire in my area. But now I realize I missed some great authors. I know I can’t read every romance authors, but if I can spare some moments, there are many talented ones outside the historical world.
And I must say Mrs Lisa Kessler is one of them, in a short span of time, I have read some great new-to-me paranormal romance authors, and it is good to widen my knowledge outside Nalini Singh, S.E. Smith ...
While this book is the fourth in a series and I do think the main characters were introduced in previous stories, it does not impede the plot line and can perfectly read as a standalone.
And with a crew of pirates I can say as an historical romance lover I was too out of my way.

Drake is a man haunted by what he sees as his greatest failure, as he was unable to save his nephew’s life and never saw again the woman he loved.
Since, he walked among the living but never was the same, lost in a sea of guilt.
Heather is unique in her own way from her look to her special talent. She knows what it is to be bullied, thus without being a strict reclusive, she has few encounters outside her line of work.
So when they meet again, after Drake saved her life a few months ago, there is a kind of awareness of the other, as if they were no real strangers.
But with everything standing between them, will their chemistry be enough to overcome the many dents and holes on their journey.
Drake and Heather are two awesome characters linked by a love stronger than time and while Heather’s stubbornness at keeping at bay Drake upset me at time, while it was not right it was with a noble sentiment behind. Hopefully Drake is one to fight and he will do anything for the woman of his dreams. Those two are two protectors, even if it goes against their own safety.
The story is set on a short span of time, but it does not diminish the strength of their bond, it even enhances it.

Now I am very curious about the other crew characters, especially Greyson and Flynn but also Agent Bale.
5 stars

Eternity is a long time to carry guilt and be alone. Drake Cole has been carrying the loss of his nephew in his heart since the boy died on the Sea Dog long ago. Now the ghost of his nephew is back and trying to save Drake. Medium Heather Storrey is the one who has been delivering the messages. But it is the love they share that will save or destroy him. I was enthralled by this story. Heather is unique in looks and personality. She is the balm to Drakes troubled soul. I ached for these two and was thrilled for their HEA.

I can't remember the last time I read a pirate romance. This one did not disappoint. I'm giving it 4.5 stars.

Drake Cole is an immortal pirate. Two hundred years ago he and the rest of the Sea Dog crew sank with their ship. A young stowaway died that night. And he's contacted local medium Heather Storrey with a message for Drake and asks her to protect Drake from the woman controlling his spirit.

When Heather delivers the spirit's message, he is attacked, hearing the scream of a banshee.
A dark coven is in possession of the figurehead from the Flying Dutch. Heather and the crew from the Sea Dog must find the relic soon, as the attacks grow stronger and anyone else gets hurt.

This is the fourth book in the Sentinels of Savannah series. And can be read as a standalone. This was also my first book from this author and I really enjoyed it.

Heather has always felt different and at times bullied but the second she spends time with Drake she doesn't feel judged, she feels seen. She also gets flashes of Drake in another life. This helps move their romance along, realizing they share a deeper connection.

Looking forward to going back to read the first three books.

**I received a copy of Pirate's Persuasion from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions were not solicited in any way. **

Pirate's Persuasion by Lisa Kessler is the fourth book in her Sentinel's of Savannah our hero is Drake and Heather's story from the last book when he saved her life. I have been to Savannah twice for Girl Scout events so I loved reading about the Birthplace and Savannah. I highly recommend reading in order if you can as previous characters do feature in this book. My rating for this addition to the series is 5 stars and I can't wait for the next one to come out after all we still have One-eyed Bob, Greyson, Caleb and Eli left to find their HEA.

Heather Storrey a medium is leaving Oatland Island after trying to settle some spirits who seem to sense something is brewing even though Halloween isn't for a few weeks. As she's leaving a boy approaches her with a message for his uncle Drake to beware of the witches. Since Drake saved and took a bullet for her she knows where to find him. The message will bring the Sentinel's crew together to solve not only the new witches coven but restless spirits, Davy Jones and the figurehead from the Flying Dutchman, The Digi Robin's leader and of course our favorite FBI agent David Bale who leads Department 13.

Drake Cole the carpenter of the Sea Dog is shocked when Heather delivers the message from his nephew he knows that it's a warning of what's to come. As the two become more embroiled in what is causing not only the Banshee's attacks, but fearing that the Flying Dutchman's figurehead could be what The Serpent Society is seeking but when Heather is taken will he decide to give away the one thing he has to save her? A lot of questions will be answered from previous books also.

Pirate's Persuasion is the fourth book in the Sentinels of Savannah, and I haven't read the rest of the series (yet), so bear with me!
The pirate crew of the Sea Dog is immortal because they drank from the Holy Grail approximately 200 years ago. In this book, we will read the story between Drake, one of the pirates, and Heather, a medium who can hear dead people. - She, from what I have gathered, has already appeared in a previous book and met Drake and the crew, though not enough to know their secret.
So Heather was contracted to work appeasing some spirits on Oatland Island and she *sees* the ghost of a little boy, which is not normal for her. This boy asks her to protect his uncle and tell him he didn't blame the uncle for what happened in the past. Heather agrees to pass on the message and is surprised when the kid says his uncle's name is Drake Cole, the guy who saved her life in a previous encounter.
When Heather arrives to deliver said message, Drake surprises her saying that he doesn't have a nephew and then suffers a psychic attack from an unknown source. During this attack, he hears the wail of a banshee, which is believed to precede death, but he can't die.
Together they start investigating who is attacking Drake and why they are doing this.

I adore pirate and ghost stories, so it was no surprise to me when I couldn't drop this book until I finished.
It is the first time I read a book by Lisa Kessler, and I just can't wait to get the rest of this series. The balance between the romance and the investigation was perfect for me. Her writing style is light and pleasing, so Pirate's Persuasion was a quick and easy read for me.
The development in Drake and Heather's relationship was quick and it didn't bother me much, because of a detail in the narrative that was foreshadowed right from the start. Otherwise, I would have thought it too shallow. I think they fell fast for one another and it could be a point of attention.
I like Heather and her nonchalant vibe about her looks, but I just loved Drake. He is the star of the book for me. He is a gentleman, driven, and respects Heather's decisions, even when he doesn't agree with them.

Overall it was a great paranormal romance book and I just can't wait to read (in the correct order this time) the rest of this series! I recommend this book a lot if you like the genre and until the release date, June 22th, you’ll have time to read the whole series!

For all that is yummy and delicious, this Pirate story is simply amazing! I was hooked from the first page on. I couldn't resist an immortal pirate that resembles Thor and works with his hands. Who could? The main character Heather is a strong and kind woman. She has the gift of sight and is able to communicate with the spirits. When a young spirit boy comes to her for help, she jumps at a chance to help the irresistible Drake. Drake who's an immortal pirate has a secret he's been keeping for over 200 years. Non of his crew mates know and he keeps it that way. However, when Heather becomes involved to try and save him, things take a turn. This book is full of twists and turns that I didn't even see some of them coming! I can't wait to get my hands on the other books to this series. Happy reading my friends!

I’ve been reading this author for a while, and I was excited to see another book in this series as I enjoyed the previous ones. I admit it took me a little to get involved in this story whereas the other ones were immediate. I have to say upfront, I think I was not in the mood for a romance when I started this; I’ve been off of them a little. However, it didn’t take long to settle in and enjoy the great writing and getting to learn more about the characters I’ve followed for a while. I think I’m really wanting to know more about David. Anyway, this was a charming romance with the feels that make romance fun. I am definitely looking forward to reading more in the series. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The perfect blend of mystery, intrigue, magic, and romance as another immortal pirate finds his match in Lisa Kessler’s Pirate’s Persuasion !

I just knew there was more to the story when it came to Drake and Heather and I love how Lisa Kessler continues to bring in new aspects of magic and the paranormal into this series. I loved how the mystery of Drake and Heather’s timeless connection unfolded and how that intertwined with Heather’s family gifts. These two seem to be destined to miss their chance again, but it was clear that they both were willing to give up everything for each other, even if that meant they might have to wait lifetimes again to find each other. And it warmed my heart to see Heather find a place where she fit in, not only with Drake, but with the entire Sea Dog crew.

As each book brings together a new couple it also introduces new twists and turns to the overall story arc. We get to find out more about Agent Bale, Department 51, and the DigiRobins. New characters are introduced to keep the story arc moving forward and set up the next stories in the series. We get to visit with old characters and learn more about how the current crew of the Sea Dog is faring.

Lisa Kessler has a way of creating characters that are easy to connect with and you can’t help but find yourself emotionally invested in. Her dialogue is always on point for each character and you can always count on some of the best and most romantic lines in each and every story. I am always amazed at how she is able to connect all the books in her series but makes each one easy to read as a stand-alone. And I’m really enjoying how she brings in the history of Savannah into each of her stories – which makes the immortal aspect of the pirates come to life.

This is one that should appeal to most everyone and belongs on any bookshelf!

This was definitely worth the wait - what a fantastic addition to this enthralling series! Having said that, I believe it work well as a standalone, too. I was taken straight back into the action as the immortal pirates have another of their crew in danger and finding love on the way!

Drake Cole is an accomplished carpenter, mind you he's had more than two centuries to hone his skills. He is shocked when Heather Storrey tells him a ghost has claimed to be his nephew and asked her to warn him he's in danger. As that danger materialises, he has dire memories to face, love to discover and secrets to reveal - and so does Heather!

This is another engaging read that I really didn't want to put down till I'd finished it. Lisa Kessler brings her characters vividly to life and it really feels like you are present, witnessing the events unfold in your imagination as the story progresses. The dilemmas they face, decisions they make, family secrets they find, all have key roles to play in this fantastic paranormal romantic suspense. I really can't recommend it highly enough and can't wait to discover just who will be the next immortal pirate to find love and read more in this fascinating, fantasy, action packed series!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after thoroughly enjoying reading it!

Wow, I tore through this book in record time. This is Book 4 in the Sentinels of Savannah series, and I have not read the first three. I was able to follow the story fine, but there is obvious backstory that I missed without reading the others. I do plan to read the first three and that's a testament to how much this story grabbed me. Now I want to know more!

Heather is a medium, who is visited by the ghost of a young boy. Her investigation of what the young boy is asking, leads her to Drake. Drake is an immortal, a pirate who went down with his crew on the Sea Dog in 1795. If a medium, a ghost, and a pirate doesn't grab you, I don't know what to say. Oh and there's an investigator here that is part of why I want to know more backstory. In addition, there's a curse, Davey Jones, the rest of the crew of the Sea Dog, witches, and Heather's sister, too. Family and found family are explored and it all feels spot on. Twists and pacing are tight and keep this story moving. I love the attraction between Heather and Drake, and the impossible dilemma presented - what would you do for the one you love? Could you give them up? Would you want to live forever without the person you love?

I have never traveled to Savannah but this book does place very well. I felt fully present and that's a key element for me in any story.

Highly recommend, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very well done and highly recommended. This is not a usual genre for me but it blurs between romance/sci-fi/mystery so well I loved it.
I actually liked the characters, you know just enough about them to be invested and to follow the story. Imagery is very well done so you feel as if you are there. And twists and turns throughout.
Pirate’s Persuasion has a great storyline, awesome even. Ms. Kessler’s writing is very good and she weaves an interesting tale that actually hooked me and prompted me to read more. I will look into more of her books in this series because of it.
The only down side for me was that it was Repetitive! With a capital R. Every chapter we had to be reminded that he’s immortal, she’s not, and that she just cant wrap her head around certain things, and about all the crew over and over. I don’t mind a few reminders sprinkled throughout the storyline but every chapter! It was like re-reading the previous chapter again in shorter form in the chapter I was in. Other than word filler, it served no purpose. I almost quit about Chapter 5 because it was driving me nuts. But I stuck it out to the end. The only place I found that this didn’t happen was the last few chapters.
Overall however, you can overlook the repetitiveness and fall into the storyline and you will be pleasantly surprised with the adventure.

Drake Cole one of the immortal pirates of the legendary Sea Dog, has consigned his life to being lonesome and still hurting over the death of his nephew when the Sea Dog sank over 200 years ago.
Savannah medium Heather Storrey has met his nephew while investigating paranormal activity and he warned her his uncle was in trouble.
She tracks down Drake to warn him. And they end up on the search for the cursed figurehead from the ship the Flying Dutchman.
They end up teaming up with David and Department 13 to find it. As they discover a new Coven of witches is in the area.
What will Drake give up to be with Heather? Will it be enough?
Lots of drama and some adventure as the crew from the Sea Dog set sail once again.
So excited for a new Pirate series..Always been my favorite romance/paranormal books.

Pirate's Persuasion by Lisa Kessler is book 4 in the Sentinels of Savannah Series. This is the story of Heather Storrey and Drake Cole. I have read the previous books (loved them!) which added to my enjoyment of this book/series. But, I did feel you could make it a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Drake and his crew are Immortal after a curse but they are in danger. Drake has guilt from the past that is working into is obsession that starts to worry the people around him. Heather is a medium that has come to help the spirits on the island. This leads her to one spirit who says he is the nephew of Drake and wants to warm him of something to come. Heather was saved by Drake earlier (in previous book) so she knows him and owes him a debt for that. This leads Heather to start working with Drake to solve the mystery that will hopefully fix what is to come. This whole series has been a very exciting read. Enjoyed!

Pirate's Persuasion by Lisa Kessler is an outstanding love story with complex but endearing characters who will steal your heart. While trying to survive betrayal and destruction Heather and immortal pirate Drake find a love that will last through time itself. Once I started reading they stole my heart to the very end making me unable to put it down until I had finished reading the very last word. Like me it will sure become the favorite book of my favorite series written Lisa Kessler.

Some may say that this is a stand-alone read but I feel that reading the series in order will enhance the enjoyment of Pirate's Persuasion. Ms. Kessler gives the needed backstory but I liked knowing what had happened the supporting characters up to the beginning of this book. It even served to help me develop a bit, I will admit a small bit of empathy for Agent David Bale. Perhaps there is a woman pirate out there somewhere for him.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Heather is a medium and can talk to ghosts. A little boy comes to her and asks her to help his Uncle. Immortal pirate, Drake, is the Uncle and he saved Heather once. Drake had snuck the boy on the ship and he perished when the ship sunk. He builds furniture and does historic renovations, but something out there wants to destroy him. Someone is using the Flying Dutchman and a coven of witches to scream like a banshee only he can hear. The tale goes whoever hears the banshee, dies. But Drake is immortal so they must figure out how to get the relic back. Heather is mortal but will she drink from the Holy Grail and gain everlasting life?

I loved this story. Suspense and sexy times with a handsome pirate. A woman who can talk to the dead and a man who cannot die. I believe this is my favorite story in the series.

Fun pirate lore and that Heather can communicate with ghosts. Plus, love all the different magical aspects to this series; the artifacts and such. It all makes for a fun adventure! There’s some good passion between Heather and Drake too. I was liking Heather in the beginning of the story; how honest and straight forward she was, but then she started making too many moron decisions, so I knocked down the rating. She tells a stranger she met online all about secret information, and some of her decisions lessened the depth of love I felt she had for Drake; maybe think more than 5 seconds about something important to someone you are supposed to love. I liked Drake; caring, sweet and protective, and he proved his devotion to Heather. It was great to see the pirates working together, and the witch angle was interesting. Overall, another entertaining book in this series!

Ghosts are coming out in droves and a banshee is on the loose messing with Drake and Heather. As a medium Heather can talk to ghosts and relay messages. With her silvery hair, light blue eyes and albino skin she looks ethereal to Drake who is drawn to her. As they work through their feelings with each other and try to find out who is behind calling forth the ghosts there is a lot of danger and a final sacrifice for Heather and Drake to be together. Amazingly good! From page one, I was consumed in the story. It’s always great to revisit characters from previous books, but one problem for me is not including them enough. The author incorporated the previous characters perfectly. I was able to enjoy them again and the main characters were able to shine. Shine they did. What an adventure! I love, love, love this series!!! Lisa Kessler is one of my favorite authors! In fact, I have read every one of her published books. I have never been disappointed with any of her stories and this one is one of the best even though she suffered a traumatic event while she was writing this book. Lisa is very adept at taking a known fact and putting her own twist on it to develop a intriguing plot for a story. If you like pirates, mediums and evil twin sisters, this is the book for you

Awesome paranormal romance! So many cool things - an immortal pirate crew that drank from the Holy Grail, a medium, witches and a government agency that finds magical relics. So much fun and a wonderful story.

Heather is a medium that has a ghost child come to her to warn his uncle that he’s in danger. She goes to Drake, but realizes she’s met him before.

They are both in danger as ghosts trapped in Davy Jones’ locker come up from the deep. Heather, Drake, the Sea Dog crew and Department 13 have to work together to find where the danger is coming from and who has the magical relic.

There are ties to previous books in this series, but this book can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

I love this series. We return to the Sea Dog crew for the boats carpenter Drake. He’s always been tormented by past choices that now the witches who have targeted him are making it worse. Local median and ghost whisperer Heather has noticed the unrest and increased activity happening around Savannah. When a boy sends her to help the man who saved her life, well she’s getting into a whole lot more than she could ever expect.

Twin sisters, Davy Jones, the Sea Dog crew, banshees, soul mates, and ex’s. This book has it all and was seriously enjoyable.

Pirate’s Persuasion is the 4th book in the Sentinels of Savannah series, which began with Magnolia Mystic. And that’s probably where you should start if you haven’t already met the crew of the Sea Dog. (You don’t really HAVE to, but you probably should read at least the first one first!)

You would think a story about pirates would be historical romance, but this isn’t. And you would think that a series about immortals still living in a haunted city would be about vampires, but that’s not what’s happening here either.

Instead, the crew of the Sea Dog managed to miss their scheduled trip to Davy Jones’ Locker back in 1795 by having drunk from the Holy Grail not long before their ship went down off the coast of Savannah.

Yes, that Grail. It’s been around. And it still is, as the events of this series have shown.

Over the centuries immortality has turned out to be as much of a curse as blessing, although not so much of a curse that any of them are willing to give it up – at least not without a greater blessing to counterbalance the effects of mortality.

As this book opens, three of the members of the Sea Dog’s crew have found their happily ever after with women tangentially connected to the paranormal and supernatural community of Savannah. Some of the couples have chosen immortality together, while others have chosen mortality together.

The together part being the entire point.

Ship’s carpenter Drake Cole has found immortality more of a burden than the others, but still chose not to give it up when faced with the choice in Pirate’s Passion. But Drake left too much behind in 1795 to live easily in the 21st century, and both come back to haunt him, literally and figuratively, in the course of this story.

The old Sea Dog had a stowaway back in 1795, Drake’s nephew Thomas. When the ship went down, Drake believed that they would die together, only for Drake to wash up on shore with the rest of the crew, and for the boy to meet Davy Jones alone. Drake has never gotten past his guilt for bringing the child aboard – and for not dying with him.

He also left the woman he loved behind in England when the Sea Dog set sail, and he’s never gotten over that loss.

His past catches up with him and tries to drag him under when a beautiful woman who talks to the dead tells him that his nephew asked her to pass on the message that his uncle was in danger, here and now, from someone very much alive.

Someone with seriously nefarious plans to ruin both Drake and the woman who has always held his heart – life after life after life.

Unless death manages to come for them both.

Escape Rating B: The premise behind this series is still an absolute hoot. On the one hand we have those immortal pirates. And who doesn’t love a good pirate romance? On the other hand, we have, well, the 21st century in which they are still living. On my third hand (call me an octopus for this one) we have not just the Holy Grail that gave the crew their immortality, but also other ancient and extremely powerful artifacts, like Pandora’s Box featured in Pirate’s Pleasure, and the figurehead of Davy Jones’ ship, The Flying Dutchman, in this story.

And on my fourth hand, we have Agent David Bale of Department 13, the government agency that deals with the paranormal, the legendary, the supernatural, and all of the other dangerous objects that need to be locked up in Warehouse 13 or Area 51. Last, but not least, we have the Digi Robins, a group of sometimes white hat but mostly black hat hackers who comb the dark web looking for priceless objects to steal – so that they can use the proceeds to help people with expensive medical problems who are all out of options.

Five points make a pentagram, which is pretty apt for this story, as it mixes the immortals with a beautiful medium who can talk to the dead and a coven of witches who plans to use the figurehead of Davy Jones’ ship to control the spirits of the dead. And at the center, a witch who will use any means available to get her revenge on everyone she thinks owes her – especially her sister and the pirate she loves.

Like the previous entries in this series, there’s a lot going on between all of the various elements. But the center of this one is medium Heather Storrey. She thinks she’s just taking a warning from a ghost to the family he left behind, only to eventually figure out that she’s been at the center of a dastardly plot all along.

I have to admit that while I love this series and it’s blend of the historical, the contemporary and the supernatural, Heather’s part in this story gave me a bit of a fit. I liked her as a person, I loved her relationship with Drake, and I’ve always enjoyed the camaraderie of the Sea Dog’s crew, but it felt obvious at least to this reader that her sister was the evil witch (literally) at the heart of the whole plot, that she had been after Heather all along, and that Heather was way too naive about their entire relationship. It may have been a case of hope over experience, but I really wanted to hit Heather with a clue-by-four a little too early on. And that spoiled the suspense aspects of the plot for me.

So, while I did enjoy the story, and I liked the way it moved the entire arc of the Sea Dog’s crew forwards, Heather is not my favorite of the heroines so far. That doesn’t mean I won’t be back, waiting on the dock for the next time the Sea Dog comes to port – because I definitely will.
