Evelyn González, MA is a passionate leader and advocate of health equity.  She oversees the Office of Community Outreach (OCO) and has been a member of the Fox Chase Cancer Center family for over 20 years.  The mission of the OCO is to engage, educate and motivate communities, organizations and individuals to participate in cancer risk reduction and prevention behaviors, use early detection strategies and cancer information, and participate in cancer research. Dr. Kristen Manley is an oncology hospitalist at Fox Chase Cancer Center. She has a passion for clinical medicine and individual patient care. In addition, she serves as the chief of the division of hospital medicine. In this role she works to improve patient care on a larger scale thru quality improvement projects and committees. During her presentation she will discuss her journey to become a physician and join the growing field of oncohospitalists.

I am a urologic surgeon and lab-based scientist treating and studying genitourinary cancers.  During my presentation, I will describe my educational and training journey and the detour that led me where I am now. I will focus on a few themes in my presentation: balance, the role of luck/preparedness, and “going all out.”  I think these themes have helped me throughout my career and personal life and are worth discussing. Mary Sonke, BSW, MSW is a Senior Project Manager at a Fox Chase Cancer Center. She is trained as a macro level social worker, taking a broad view of the systemic causes of social injustice at the large-scale community, state, national, and international levels, and developing programs and interventions that address these systemic causes. Mary holds a master’s degree in Community, Organization and Policy with a specialization in Health. Early in her career, Mary’s professional focus centered on clinical social work, and has since expanded into project management, business development and policy, and systems change. Mary’s professional passion lies at the intersection between health- and trauma-informed care, where she strives to improve the patient experience, engagement and overall health outcomes. George Beschen is the Senior Director of Individual Giving in the Department of Institutional Advancement. George doesn’t have an MD or a PhD (he was an English major in college) but he’s spent his entire 29-year career among scientists and physicians. He’s never faced a major health challenge, but he interacts with patients and former patients all the time. During his seminar, George will talk about how he’s navigated through the worlds of medical institution communications and fundraising as a virtual “outsider on the inside” with three key tools: curiosity, humility, and empathy. What Does a Behavioral Scientist Do? (And How to Become One)
Carolyn Fang, PhD is a psychologist and behavioral scientist. She has been at Fox Chase Cancer Center for over 20 years, where she currently serves as Associate Director of Population Science.  Her research examines how psychosocial and behavioral factors may influence cancer risk and outcomes, particularly in racial and ethnic minority populations. During her presentation, Carolyn will discuss her interests in understanding how myriad factors interact to contribute to population health and health disparities across diverse communities.
