FINDINGS is a public art series celebrating women and science. Appearing in cities across the United States starting Fall 2020.

As an internationally recognized artist, Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya is best known for work that showcases the amazing women who have pushed science forward. In partnership with the Heising-Simons Foundation, she brings her flair for large-scale murals to her deep passion for gender equality to create her most ambitious work yet. As much as FINDINGS reimagines science through vibrant public artwork, it also serves as a moving tribute to womankind.

Science:

Scientific progress is the heartbeat of this nation. Our country thrives when we invest in the curious, resourceful, and unyielding scientists and researchers who uncover new insights about our world. FINDINGS murals explore the fields of dark matter, climate change, condensed matter physics, and exoplanets, with more to come.

Women:

Women are the connective tissue of our society. They hold things together—families, communities, nations—when they would otherwise fall apart. In a world where most murals are made by men and depictions of women are shaded by the male gaze, FINDINGS shows us women as they truly are: vital, powerful, and wondrous.

Public Art:

Murals and public art give for our cities and communities a sense of place and identity. They bring humanity to the built environment and invigorate public spaces. They can establish and reveal our values, mark a location and moment in time, and in a world where indoor spaces can be deadly, a wonderful way to enjoy art while outside.

Augmented Reality:

At its best, technology is able to shrink the distance between time and space, allowing us to revel together in ways that would have been impossible before. Findings will launch with a free augmented reality (AR) mobile app for iOS and Android. The AR features both allow in person visitors to have a deeper experience, seeing 3D animations and additional context on the science and story behind the art. It also allows those who cannot visit in person to bring the art into their classrooms and homes, using just their phone.

Youth Partners:

Each mural will be co-created in partnership with young people from the area. Boys and Girls Clubs, schools, art programs, science education, and community groups. The local community will be able to engage with the art and science of each mural and participate in the painting process.

Cities:

We are proud to partner with cities and local organizations in diverse communities across the country to create brights spots of art and science that will catalyze conversation and discovery.
