Free, one-on-one tutoring for young New Yorkers We are a group of students here to support K-12 NYC public school children through COVID-19. We focus on connecting volunteer tutors with students from low-income households, homeless students, undocumented students, English language learners, students with special educational needs, and others facing disproportionate challenges in this moment. About our program EduMate NYC was founded by a team of college students who are all proud graduates of NYC public schools. When COVID-19 closed down school buildings, we set out to help young New Yorkers through remote learning. From the start, we were particularly focused on serving the over 800,000 students in our city who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and are at highest risk of struggling academically during the pandemic. What we offer Completely free Individual attention Online and by phone An hour of tutoring each week Sessions with volunteer college students
Our Tutors Our program is driven by a community of talented, passionate, and creative tutors. They are artists and writers, aspiring athletes and nurses. And they all share a commitment to supporting young New Yorkers and advancing educational equity. Since the start of our program, we have partnered with thousands of volunteers, who represent over 300 colleges and secondary schools around the world.
